New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

Right? I'm just... I'm just mad now. Like a lot of my posts have been me trying to use my toddler-tier Japanese to at least help explain why the Japanese patch notes and interview(s) seem so distant and apathetic in an attempt to at least be like hey, they aren't trying to be cruel...

But the fact is that it took modders less than 6 hours to add ears to the new hairstyles followed by information like this that entirely contridicts what Square and Yoshi-P told us. Like, just compete and utter fabrications on Square's part.

Like, what the hell? Just say you didn't get around to it! Don't lie to our face!

True, Hrothgars are not the most popular race [because SE keeps neglecting them!], but if you let this subpar treatment go on, they'll eventually go for your precious cat/lizard girls too - they're already slowly doing it with hats and capes.

I think the biggest issue here is that the devs thought that having the ears clipping through the hair would look WORSE than having no ears at all.


The game even has a toggle on/off for the ears in the aesthetician. Why not let the players decide if they mind the ears clipping through hair or not?

Players suggested this in like the first 20 minutes of the reveal. Thing is when you mod the ears in, clipping isn't actually that big of an issue and it took less than 6 hours for modders to fix even that issue.

Literally everything they said was preventing them has so far been not only disproven but also fixed with only a modicum of effort.

It was all a lie to cover their asses. It's almost offensive of how bad of a lie it was. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just to convince the Japanese players because most of them are console users so they don't ordinarily know about mods.

Although the original thought that they severely underestimated the amount of people who would be upset by this and are now trying desperately to save face is also a possibility. In the end though it's all the same: Square and Yoshi-P's excuses are complete fabrications and have no basis in reality.

I'm not clear on the terminology, but aren't the new facial features a completely new thing that they've built to replace the old thing (selection of hairstyle bit) that they don't need any more? All character models get five options, so they had to make something to fill the empty space. Are they not being handled how the other options are handled?

My bad. The alarms rang too early. But after all we're talking about Squeenix, so better expect the lower ends possible. *chuckles*

Seems the code is in such a bad shape, they had to do a minor revamp. But after all they also gave proof of concept that all the other face's styles can be converted as well.
I mean if they can stick a former facial feature and the actual hair together, it's also possible to spend 20-30 more minutes per piece to extend the choices by the rest.
It's no master science, and was already done by "non professionals".

1/ Best place to start would be just to unlock all current hairstyles that are locked to their designated face, that would open 8 styles right off the bat.
2/ Add the ears to the current (imo poorly pick) hairstyles
3/ Add in the styles designed by SacraAnima. -



/4 Add in some of the syles which you didn't like back in Shadowbringers

I think that worse part is .. they gonna be silent about it till next live letter - saying they didn't know that we gonna be so unhappy about it , maybe yoshi gonna cry abit saying that he's sorry or something . Then they promise that they gonna fix it but they super busy atm to finish new Store mount saying : we promise its gonna be worth waiting .. we gonna add 2 new super crazy popular haircut in 7.0 ( well maybe 7.1)

I'm kind of surprised it took this long for people to realize how disconnected Yoshi is and how overburdened with work his team is after how many times he's expressed obstinate and nonsensical resistance to expand the team to meet the expanding workload. The team of ARR cannot keep up with ARR + 3/4 expansions. It's just insipid and childish.

I've been noticing this started with healers years ago, is now reaching into other classes, slithered into Viera when most the bestial aspects were removed, and now the Hrothgars are catching onto this.

I can’t speak for all Hrothgar, but if you want to make this right, @FFXIV_NEWS_EN , stop adding ears; we’re well past that.
1) Pick one Hrothgar face.
2) Standardize that ear position.
3) Make legacy hair available to all faces.
4) Admit you went deaf long before we did.
