What I'm saying is coming out with that quote without quotation marks and without any clear indication of a joking intention made it indistinguishable from an insult.

It's like saying something outrageous and uncalled for, and when you're called out for saying said outrageous and uncalled for statement, you respond with "it was just a joke bruh chill" or "it was just a prank!".

It doesn't really make it ok.

Generally people who are mad will be prone to lashing out at others, whether they have a reason to or not.

If you want someone to blame, blame Square for refusing to address the issue and allowing the forums to get to the state it is because of it. Even their patch notes surrounding the subject at hand are cryptic. It could at the very least be cleared up in a matter of minutes.

It is strange how tight-lipped Square is. I've played several games and MMO's where its forums actually have interaction with the devs/reps. These forums are pretty much forsaken in comparison.

They have to make people laugh and be funny to be jokes. This was just an uncalled for reference which flew over the heads of people who didn't watch this "comedian's" favorite 1980's movie and came off as an insult due to lack of context.

If you have to spend several minutes explaining your joke for it to land, it's probably not a very good joke.
