New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

sorry for reposting my thing from the other thread, but it needs to be seen! as you can see, yes the new hairstyles won't have ears, but we'll be able to choose between 16 racial hairstyles with ears in the aesthetician. There's no need to rage in doom and gloom, the pacth notes was just worded badly! relax, because hroths will have more customization than ever (and with ears!)

At this point, I think we're barking at the wrong tree.
I don't think they look at feedback here at all, however I know they look at in game feedback (Support Desk, Contact Us, Leave a Suggestion).

Maybe it's better if we create a template and send that in game twice a week, every week till they actually listen.

Unfortunately, that won’t work. The last time I did this they told me to go to the forums because they don’t handle feedback.

We only have to wait until the 11th for Yoshi to host a live video, maybe he’ll address the situation then.

ares they're mad because it's been 3+ years and the most work they've done is hastily porting a handful of hairstyles the other races already have when it would take a ¥932/hr intern less than 3 months to fix the only issue supposedly stopping them, aka the ears clipping.
their frustration is justified when square constantly announces at their yearly quarters that ffxiv subs are basically funding the entirety of squresoft.
it's also better they're mad in here, a containment zone, rather than everywhere else. so it's good that this thread exists.

I think it's likely that they did a poor job wording the patch notes. I believe we will be able to not only change hairstyle on the aesthetician, but also select between 16 (!) racial hairstyles with ears included (beyond the newly added earless ones).


Here is my reasoning. They said thet removed the facial feature that would add an extra bit of hair to your hairstyle, and added that to the hairstyles section. Now think... Hrothgars don't currenlty have a hairstyle section. I think in this hairstyle section they'd have the new ones but also 2 versions of each of the other face's hairstyle, one with the extra bit of hair plucked from facial features, and another without. So that makes 16 different hairstyles with ears every hroth could choose from.

Why don't I think it will be just 2 hairstyles for that face type? If the hairstyles selection (the racial one with the stuff from facial features) is happening in the hairstyle section, the face section would be just that, picking between the 4 faces. The hairstyles section would need to have the 2 variations, since you'd need to be able to change between the hairstyle with and without the added bit, meaning the face selection wouldn't have a hairstyle baked on. And what happens when you switch from face 1 to face 2, but you had the hairstyle that usually comes from face 1 selected in the hairstyles section? the face 2 would be wearing that same hairstyle as well. That's the behavior that happens when changing faces currently in the game for races that have a hairstyles section. So it would make to reason then that all 16 racial hairstyle variations would be in that section, usable in all 4 faces. And you know what races with a hairstyles section on character creation also have? A hairstyles section on the aesthetician! I think our case is closed!



Also, something of note in regards to hrothgar customization, in place of that removed facial feature, they're adding a brand new one!





The coeurl faced hroths will have an option for these scars on their forehead! I wonder what will be the new facial detail added as an option for the other 3 faces!


So in the end, don't despair, my hroth friends, from what it looks like we'll have more customization than ever, and you won't have to sacrifice your ears, if you don't like the earless hairstyles you'll have 16 options with ears that fit the hrothgar race!

I mean, I would be super happy with that, since thats basicially all I wanted to being with, but it sounds too good to be true. If they did that, surely they would have adressed it right? Ill press X to doubt

sure, but there is a lot of misinformation and bad faith arguments rolling around, and the anger that comes if you think you'll have to still pay to change to the new styles and they're still earless. You won't need to pay a single thing, you won't lose your eaers if that's important to you, you will have more racial hairstyles to choose from... I know the frustration is building up, but there is no need to blow up (unless you're really keen on using the unlockable hairstyles with ears).

square doesn't need you to do their job for free when they have PR people they already pay to do it.
any confusion is square's fault, not yours. you're not doing them or yourself any favours by interacting with people who are already having trouble staying calm.

I mean, the positivity is appreciated. But the issue is... This is still 3+ years of waiting for something that has been asked for from the start. The POSSIBLE unlocking of the base racial hairstyles is good and all. But even then, the excuses that we get from the devs each time is ridiculous when we can see what 3rd party developers and modellers can make. And have made. People are mad not just because of the ears, but because these new hairstyles that we've effectively been hyped up about since the live letter before this one suck.

Who wants to wear the 2B Colgate Commercial? The Karen Hairstyle? The 2B Hair. If the feedback from their fans is so important, why not use that feedback and add hairstyles that people actually want. Rather than porting hairstyles that don't fit the race at all. The only hairstyle that remotely works is the Snow hairstyle... It sucks seeing 3rd party artists, some of which are creating out of their spare time and using their own time, unpaid for many. Producing some amazing work, creating these amazing models. But then Squaresoft's developers who are being paid hourly to do their best give us this? This stuff that looks like the viera porter had to whisper to them 'Don't make it obvious that you copied my homework.' It's ridiculous. We're well within our right to be angry. The misinformation is due to Square's overall vagueness on the issue. It's hard to have good faith in a company that, for 3+ years has almost carefully tiptoed around the issue and when they do finally produce results...
