Need motivation/inspiration to play. What do you like about the game?

I know the game is fantastic, but for some reason I'm not logging in and my sub that I paid good money for is wasting away.

I need some help to change my mindset so I can appreciate the game again.

Story really hooked me around Heavensward and throughout lulls in content/story I usually busy myself by collecting the rarer, more high quality weapons and glamours out there.

However, I played each expansion as they came out and do find the combat experience in earlier instances significantly reduced compared to when I did them. I am hoping that properly tuned trusts in older dungeons will provide more fun in those instances compared to getting all max level players who take away the need to figure out mechanics, etc.

Well we shouldn't be convincing you to like a game since everyone have different preferences and expectations. Personally I play this game to keep in touch with my brother, I don't hate or love it but at the moment this is my to go time filler since I get to catch my bro online and do stuff with him xD

doing content with friends, thats it.
started by giving the game a try, loved the story saw myself in my character so i could enjoy the story more, joined fc met friends ingame and help out others from time to time.

however between the horrible job design and horrible implementations of skills and odd and bad changes, having issues completely ignored for entire expansions for no reason.
what keeps me playing is doing content with friends, simple as that.
without them, i would have unsubbed.

To help you, ask yourself if there is anything you would like to get done. Maybe achieve a title, a mount, a minion, or even a glamour. If you can think of something to achieve, there is something you would like to obtain, find the best way to get it.

For example, I am currently just working on my botany grind to get a title. I also just find in general doing some gathering a very relaxing thing to do.

There's nothing wrong with taking a break.
Atm I am mostly logging in for Savage weekly and usually I am done with it in one sitting.
After that I login sometimes to do dailies for tomestones and crafting or maybe try PvP a little or simply do Savage floors for fun with 0 chests or even dungeons for fun.
I am also doing Eureka for weapon glam, Eureka is fun imo too.

But I am mostly playing other games until new content is out.
I feel like the game feels the most empty to me early after launch, content will build on itself over time tho.

The story is the main hook for me. Right now I'm clearing up side quests in Endwalker zones while waiting for the next patch.

I would take some time to think about what drew you into the game in the first place. Was it the story, the jobs, the graphics etc.

Taking a cursory glance at your character profile I can see 54 is your highest job and you're not in an FC or any Linkshells. I would personally focus on getting a single job through the story and to cap as this opens up a lot more activities. whilst you're doing that I would look to join an FC or a Linkshell and just start chatting with people.

Personally what keeps me playing is the variety of content whether it be Hunts, Crafting, Raiding, Housing, hanging with friends etc, there is also something for everyone.

A JRPG with overall above average production values in art (pixelated textures, janky animations, and issues with lighting/shadows aside), good English localization, good English voice acting, great music, interesting enough setting, decent story presentation, and tolerable gameplay. As a bonus, it also has some decent character customization and a few fun side activities like the Gold Saucer or seasonal events to dip my toes in every now and then. Is in no a way an MMO that can stand up to WoW at its height and retain my attention every day of the year, but those days are long past. I have numerous issues with FFXIV and desires for improvement that will never be realized, but it is currently one of the best games on the market IMO (which also says a lot about the sad state of the games industry), so I settle for what I can get.
