PvP Rewards New and Old - Why repeat past mistakes?

You may not like it but it's true. The glams / mounts / minions etc are all trophies. And as such are intended to keep there significance or meaning. This is why they were made rare / limited in the first place...

It's the same principle behind locking the glamours behind ultimates. Because just like pvp. Those glamours ARE the trophies. And the devs have said many times that they will never hand them out because doing so destroys there significance and what they represent.. Same goes again for things like the legacy tattoo and chocobo... they stand for and represent something. So they will not just make them available to everyone just because they want it.

So if you weren't there or didn't do the thing.. Then nope. You can't have the shiny thing. stop being selfish.

But anyone can beat ultimate at any time and get the stuff. The legacy tattoo is farcical, just like the rage about the raven earrings awhile back. You should've won the trophy if you wanted to flex. Furthermore, what is wrong with allowing a non top 100 player to purchase the glam pieces or mounts after a few seasons of grinding? Pride? It's a videogame my guy.

The thing about an MMO is it's more "alive" than an offline game is. You're going to miss out on things as time advances, and that's just the nature of these games.
In fact, the idea that 'everyone should be able to get everything' is absolutely crazy to me. Everything would be dull and unchanging in that regards.

Might as well remove content while we're at it and call it Cataclysm.

matter of opinion. you may think the legacy tattoo is indeed farcical. but there have been plenty of threads over the years from playing requesting it and the legacy chocobo to be added to mog station... for no reason other than "because i want it" or "because i pay the same sub"

as for it being a game thats a rubbish excuse... i mean footballs a game so can i go and get my england caps even though i never played in the 2002 world cup or whatever year it was.. i mean those players have had it long enough right and it is just a game after all...

how about olympic medals.. i mean i didnt take part in the 2012 olympics but id sure like some gold medals.... surely those athletes have had them long enough.. and the olympics are just games after all...

whats wrong with allowing a non top 100 player to obtain those rewards is that it destroys what those rewards stand for and represent... and you want to destroy that for no reason other than "because you want it" if they give them to you then they no longer represents the top 100 playeres in whatever pvp thing it was called. i didnt take part so i dont have those shiny rewards and thats perfectly fine even if some of them do look really nice. i'm not going to ask them to destroy the value and significance of those shinies for all the players who earnt them just so i can have them..

Oh okay, lets just repeat what happened with hellhound armor... again.

Like, I think maybe less than 1% of the playerbase ever saw that armor, and the guys who probably got the armor don't even wear it or play the game anymore. Or maybe they do and just don't care about the hellhound armor.

Yes, let’s talk about the hellhound armor. That was a really cool set. I didn’t get it, in fact most people didn’t. So I missed out on it. The other day I saw on someone and you know what I thought?

I thought, oh wow that looks sick as hell I better do PvP next time that is such a cool looking armor piece. And I went on about my day and had a great time.

You know what I didn’t think?

OMG I can’t believe the developers made something so hard to get and now no one can get it anymore. My life is over. I hate everyone and everything… I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER GIVE ME EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW.

1. There should be content that is easy to get and everyone can have it.
2. There should be content that requires skill and high end play to acquire it
4. There should be content that is transient and can then be bought at the store
5. There should be some content so rare and exclusive that should be belong to people who were there at the right time, and the right place.

It all adds to the hype. And I don’t think it’s bad design unless they keep the best performing pieces (stat wise) behind a paywall.

Titles and trophies are a far bigger flex than glamour items you bank and never use again. Those can remain exclusive. Also, actually adding them to wolf collar system would've kept pvp a more attractive option to a wide section of the playerbase. This would be like me, a savage raider, whining about players that complete savage with echo to get mounts and glam items. Its just silly.

I'm going to go slightly off topic, but I'll leave my own 2 cents here before taking my leave of there's nothing else to be gotten out of this thread. I'm not here to take sides of whether exclusive items should exist, because I can care less about them.

I don't mind people pushing for the nonexclusive route. Please understand this. If there was no exclusive items competition would cease to exist. I see a minority complaining about that when it comes to frontlines, but according to the past live letters that's shouldn't really be an issue since it was pointed out that players just don't want to pvp.

Regarding the Garo event I could possibly see this as a problem if you wanted a mount. However, if all you wanted was glam and you're complaining about having to do pvp for them there's no reason to complain. Back then they had alternative sets you could grab at the Gold Saucer. Whether that part is coming back next patch is a mystery.

Anyways, if majority is pushing to get a 100% collection rate on titles, mounts, minions, cards, and emotes then it just needs to come out. All I'm taking out of this thread is that the devs are wasting their time adding a rank mode for Crystal Conflict, because everyone wants to be able to earn the rewards at any given time.

Titles are viable exclusive rewards, same as trophies. They are your "gold" medals. Glam items and mounts are not. No other glam item, minion or mount since the launch of ARR has been time exclusive.

Now that's a take. "These things are suitable as rewards, and these are not, from the council of I said so!" Titles are the worst "trophies". How many firmament titles you see walking around? Trophies can be whatever the dev team and Yoshi say they are as it's their game to do so. Mounts and armor were great trophies because it hyped up competition for them. People fail to realize how many thousands of hours per season some people committed to getting them, and that's not an exaggeration. I had roughly 600 games last season, at 6min per match, with 10min to 2hour queue times. You do the math. I wear my "trophies" with more pride and feeling of accomplishment than most players feel for their entire character.

This is a moot point though. It's clear they are moving the armor and mount to the series rewards, while making only titles and the new calling cards the ranked rewards, unless they add a recolor of the series reward as a ranked reward or something. So the AFKers get the cool PVP armor, while those that enjoy competition get a calling card no one will regularly see.
