This tier has been the worst for me bc I have no job of the 3 to fall back on :-/
    I’m in this same boat. I have mained SMN in every expansion except for 4.0, where I dabbled in red mage for most of the expansion.

    I’m very mixed with the current state. I’m not running around with my head cut off like some, but I do think the rework is incomplete and needs some additions and some cleanup.

    Carbuncle is a mess and honestly needs to be removed. Searing light and aegis should be summoner abilities with a carbuncle flair.

    The 3 primal phases need an extra level of complexity. The two button rotation is too simple and offers zero choice. I want something that changes my rotation. I don’t want that thing to be DoTs. I hope bio and miasma stay far away. I would honestly be fine with a new proc based ability that would interact in different way depending on the primal phase, similar to astral flow.

    I sound like a broken record, but Rez needs to be removed from summoner and red mage or added to black mage. Caster balance is impossible with it. The melee DPS don’t deal with this kind of problem. They all either deal more damage or have more DPS raising utility.

    I’m party finding my way through the raids this time around and I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve thought to myself “we would have cleared that if I was a black mage”. And it’s because we didn’t need my rez, but we didn’t clear a damage check because someone died at some point.

    Praying for an interesting new caster for 7.0

    I have some ideas for making summoner a bit more interesting without having to completely rework it, feedback is welcome:

    1. Each gem summon is on a cast. Garuda is .5 seconds, ifrit is 2.5, titan is 1.5.

    2. Each gem summon’s astral flow gives a temporary buff. Ifrit increases your damage for 45 seconds, Garuda makes your next gemshine instant, titan applies a stacking vuln increase about half as strong as trick attack. (So one mountain buster applies .5%, second applies 1%, so on)

    3. You must use a gem summon before summoning Bahamut or Phoenix.

    4. Phoenix deals the same amount of damage as bahamut, but bahamut gives the party a weak DH buff.

    5. You can summon either bahamut or Phoenix whenever. They’re on separate buttons.

    6. Rekindle is a rez without rez sickness.

    7. The trait that enables gem summons’ astral flows is unlocked at 60.

    People that didn't like summoner before rework because they didn't like putting in the effort love it now and that is a big amount of players, which fits the game design so its actually a success. I cleared p2s in 30 mins with smn just following people around and pressing the 2 button rotation and the ogcds in cd... and I also use it for farming since I don't have to think of an optimal way to burst with it either. It went from hard job to literally the most braindead dps, even dnc has more to it than it nowadays and that's kinda depressing.

    Well, Searing Light will come from the Summoner meaning Searing Light might be launched later since it could benefit SMN assuming it can be cast since the Carbuncle requirement seems to have been removed.

    Also, that's the only thing they showed on the LL and while I feel bad for Samurais since their changes don't look fun at all, I feel Summoner was the prelude of lowering skill ceiling from all jobs...

    For those wondering, Kaiten is being removed (it was a core Samurai ability) and their Midare will auto-crit. That lowers the skill ceiling and also causes an indirect nerf to Dancer + Dragoon rDPS.

    Ninja's raid buff is on a 2 minute CD Mug now. Trick Attack will be a personal buff. I guess it was hard to not bunny?

    Anyways, my expectations were set pretty low so I'm not disappointed lol.

    SAM is also a nerf to SCH.

    Regarding SMN, lol. Searing Light change is technically good, but it just shows - again - that the rework was rushed and incomplete. Now we have an even more useless Carbuncle.

    Yes nothing very surprising, in any case the job balances are disappointing, since the last patch I understood that I should not expect anything from future changes.

    I'm one to believe the Searing Light is a good change. There's an argument where playing your pet in certain moments is better. Like Pinax or Temperence.

    However, I think that falls behind the potential of delaying Searing Light. Originally, it was forced on GCD 1 because you literally had no option. Now you can look at slipping it into your second Elemental Summon. Summoners were already sad so no changes. I do think Samurais are getting shafted. Ninja is still a question mark. Don't get it wrong, it's probably not a DPS nerf. But gameplay is smoother on the brain, Monk is now the Dancer best friend. Samurai mains will just feel overall less joy on the job.

    The Living Dead "buff" is pretty funny also.

    The SL change is nice but it's just one small thing on a pile of other problems I have with smn. I'm not disappointed tho since I wasn't even excepting that so it's something at least. They said in the LL that they didn't show all the changes for the jobs they show so just going to have to wait for the patch notes if they did anything else to smn but once again my hopes are very very low. Just praying that they change DRK to the point our rpr wants to switch back to DRK and let me switch to RPR.

    I wasn't expecting more substantial changes, but I was hoping for something. The searing light change is better than nothing I guess.

    This makes me believe that we aren't going to get any meaningful changes until 7.0. Sad days.

    Yeah, they showed the main class changes in term of abilitiy changes. Somehow, MCH they showed "heres more damage on your buttons." lol
