    Travel time?

    Hey all,

Is there info anywhere saying how long it takes to travel between national capitals, for example Gridania to Ul'dah? I'm most curious about land travel, but airship would be cool too.

I got a wild hair the other day and decided to go from Gridania to Horizon then take the ferry to Limsa. Traveling only on the ground, following the roads (no shortcuts), it took me 3 hours and 30 minutes Eorzea time to make the trip. There's got to be a huge amount of land that's gotten bypassed in the loading between playable zones.

    Thank you,
    IQ

Every once in a while we get a tidbit of info, like how in SB we learned that the average trading ship takes 3 months to sail from Limsa to Kugane, but in general we know very little. We've never been given a real sense of the scale or size of Eorzea.

I wouldnt even know where to look for it now but yeaaaars ago like back in ARR might even have been beta. some players got really board and actually measured the zones in terms of malm and yalms.

they did this by using the range on spells or something as a measuring stick. i cant remember the specifics but i do remember it being a pretty small world. people run at a speed of about 25 malms an hour or somthing i think it was. basically super elite athletes...

would certianly be nice to see something official though

There are obscene amounts of territory not shown and even the zones themselves are scaled down just for the sake of the game. For example, go to Coerthas and take a look at the doll house that is "Ishgard" and the "Steps of Faith" bridge leading to it. They are tiny and look absolutely nothing like their city and instance versions respectively. Or just look past the boundary of any zone transition gate way and odds are the terrain beyond is not entirely similar to the zone it spits you out at. IE: North Shroud leads into mountains and canyons rather than immediately seeing a snowy tundra. Considering Eorzea is a continent all on it's own, though we have no idea how large it is to my knowledge but that said, I imagine it takes a least a few days of on foot travel between the city states at a minimum.

That's just my opinion though. My friends and I sometimes treat it as though hours pass between walking to outposts in the same zone and and at least a few days of travel between cities if you're riding your mount particularly hard.

Also have to take into account how much faster time is passing on the Eorzea clock. We are not nearly as fast as we think we are.

Sure, but it's not THAT much faster. If it only took 3ish in game hours to run from Gridania to Horizon, even at average human walking speed that only puts them at most 10 miles apart, which is clearly incorrect. The game clock only runs that fast for the sake of making the day/night cycle actually cycle.
