For me this new system is worse than the old one, simply because you can only bid on one single plot. At least it would have been nice to bid on as many houses as long as someone is able to pay the money.

Honestly the chances right now to get a plot are not much higher than before the change imo. But at least with the old system one could have still gotten another house in a different location if they are fast enough. Now you only can pick one and hope for the best.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Yeah, this is exactly how I see it is going to roll out. The so called restriction is merely 30 days in FC. I pity those praising this delusional system while most of dedicated already got 7 alts ready

People don't seem to be over the moon with apartments.

Apartments lack an outdoor area. Give them a second room and a nice useable balcony and fewer people would ask for a house.

I wish they would add one ward in each housing area that was instanced. I know people complained they wanted their neighborhoods but if one ward was instanced then at least people would get something.
    Under Purchase availability it says:
Housing areas are divided into plots available for purchase by either free companies or private buyers, and a plot’s usage is restricted accordingly.

We don't even get air conditioning.

Yeah, we definitely need the ability to change the layout or size. I think an outdoor area would be fantastic too - like a "community" garden so we can have full access to gardening. Balconies could be used to put in some outdoor furniture. Ugh I think it'd help alleviate some of the issues at least. Apartments, as they are right now, feel too limited and bare.

Well, I suppose this would just essentially be the good ole phrase "The lesser of two evils".

Neither are exactly brilliant choices. But I would take a system completely down to random chance than what I would for a system that essentially encourages botting or automation behaviour.

EVERYONE complained and now they can live with what they've done. The system was fine if you put the time in. Now? We're going back to LARGE FC's owning NUMEROUS plots of land. Because as soon as the first details came out, I saw loads of FC's that are quite large and have stacks of gil talk about making alt FC's, leveling them up (since it take virtually no time) spend a few hours leveling their characters because that takes no time either. And then just wait for the housing ot throw 50+ tickets onto a house to get it. On ALL their FC's now. SE quite literally gave them a "Legal" work around to the system that everyone complained about before lmfao
