We need more options at the barber

Why does FFXIV have such insane restrictions on character customisation, post-character creation ? The argument about the barber not being able to change your face or skin color is irrelevant because you can already change your eyebrow shape and add or remove scars. We should absolutely be able to change everything except race and gender without using a fantasia.

None of the other top MMORPGS are as limited as FFXIV. That one other game had an update to the barber shop where they let you change everything (even your gender) at the barber shop. Only race costs real money. If they can do it, Square can as well.

It's time we get more freedom when it comes to customisation.

I agree that there are major customization limitations - I literally could go on with how out dated the available options are.

But making small hairstyle threads doesn't help and not posting in the hair megathread just shows how little interest people actually have in wanting these things or supporting them. The megathread currently sits at 400 replies, let's get it another 400!
The thread needs to get 800+ replies, But they have to be on-topic replies. It's gotten a few troll posts which defeats the purpose of what the thread is trying to accomplish

Adding more options to the aesthetician (as they've been adding hairstyles and preset additional options for newer species like Au Ra) don't at all sound implausible to me.

You're confusing a few different things here.

Adding options to the aesthetician is not quite the same thing as adding options to the character creator.

The aesthetician lets you edit selected categories of options from the character creator, generally limited to superficial options (eg. hair colour) but not actual face structure (eg. eye shape), though it seems there is some leeway with settings that control different types of thing on different character types. For example, some races' extra feature switches control beards or jewellery, others control scars or scale placement, so it errs on the side of modifiability and lets everyone change those equivalent options.

New hairstyles are essentially extensions to the character creator as a whole, although more and more we're getting ones that require unlocks rather than being dropped straight in as default, so they can only be accessed later.

Meanwhile, "preset additional options" are definitely a character creator thing, as they get designed as part of the new race's model. It's not an extension of anything in the same way that creating additional hairstyles adds further options for all standard races, but that every race gets five on/off features as part of their basic design. Nobody ever gets additional things added onto their options beyond the initial five.



An ideal addition to the aethetician would be the option to change basic face type, which would break the pre-established rule about not being able to edit things that alter the face shape, but would allow Hrothgar to change their hairstyle. I can't see it being a setting that people would make much use of for other reasons if they're not able to fine-tune individual aspects of the face design.

I would rather have my fur look GOOD and not shaved to the neck with hair just left ontop, so perhaps he does need a BIT more time.

I mean, there's MORE options, I can change my fur pattern, I can remove anything I added in creation, but I can't move my bead bangle from one side of my face to the other (no mirror option to move it like in creation, just a yes or no toggle). But I can't change my hair yet, no.

Figure all that is held up somewhere, but when the ladies show up it'll probably be working then.

Do you REALLY want to tell a QUEEN of the HROTHGAR that you refuse to fix her hair?

That is depressing, I was really hoping. Oh my gosh square come on now. If we were in the game ourselves we could do things like that ourselves without a barber. It is like letting you, you can dye specific places of your fur just because the technology does not exist or something weird. My friend who play Hrothgar was excited to hear of the changes though they were small. I truly hope they do fix this completely with Hrothgar Moms. Heck no you wouldn't be able to tell them you can't fix their hair! It is freaking adorable to imagine this scene playing out.

As a quick side note for this thread I really really want them to give us multiple different styles for dreads. Personally really want the standard straight hair pony tail samurai kind of hair style. There is one that is close with the side bangs in the front but the back of the hair is just straight and clips into armor. I just want that hair style but with a pony tail variant



Like this one but longer and straighter on the side bangs and slightly straighter ponytail.

Dreads though, there is only one option and an afro. It is sad.
