Just to be clear, I am not complaining... I actually dont think the Eorzean reaction is a bad thing. In a way, it makes sense.
Eorzeans are so self absorbed, they dont even notice the world ending around them.
They are so into whats going on with them... so interested in amassing wealth, or being better than the other city states, or furthering the pursuits of their respective guilds that they fail to notice that it really could be out with a bang, and not a whimper after all
