What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

Boy, does it feel awkward watching streamers finishing the Elpis segment then seeing their chats gushing about it after all the deep thinking and discussion I've done since I finished the MSQ.

I think I now relate to Hermes on a spiritual level in the sense of feeling alone and like an aberration for having different thoughts from the masses.

Honestly, once 6.1 is here and it gives everyone something new to discuss I think that there will be more people willing to understand the concerns people are putting forward about Endwalker's narrative and messaging. Especially since 6.1 will give access to New Game + and allow more people to go back outside of the honeymoon period.

If nothing else, the development team are at least aware of such concerns and will hopefully take greater care when writing the story in the future.

Ha, very true! Though I did laugh yesterday as, nestled in between all the "MoMmY"s and "I'd do anything for you!"s during an Elpis segment, was a person who said "Ugh. The only characters I despise in this game are Hermes and Hydaelyn".

That'll be interesting to see. If it fades into the background as quickly as it appeared then that will simply reveal it to be little more than a lazy way to try and justify the genocide of the Ancients at Venat's behest. It's interesting to me that the tone in interviews has changed subtly to carefully outline that the caricatures in the form of the Dead Ends were simply Venat's belief of what would occur rather than a certainty.

Which is the sort of storytelling I prefer, honestly. Shadowbringers worked very well in that regard since it outlined Emet's motivations and losses whilst leaving it open as to whether or not the player wanted to sympathise with his plight.

I really hate that thing. Came up out of nowhere with little to no rule, except for "emotion stronk". Does it even have alignment like aether does? Is "negative" emotion can only beaten by "positive". How does it classified it since emotions are very complex?

Supposedly it only need "strong" emotions for it to work, what stopping a more negative emotion (i.e anger) to overrule Meteion's power over UT? Because Zenos clearly doesn't run on conventional positive emotions and yet he was powered up by dynamis nonetheless.

Also, when the scions sacrifice change UT, why can't meteion simply change it back? Clearly at that point her despair and negative emotion are still stronger than them.

I can't even say EW is good if you don't think about it because even on a surface level knowing an apocalypse is coming and not forewarning the people who could do something about it is wrong on every level no matter how many excuses you try to make otherwise.

The worst part about watching streamer reactions is having to be subjected to all the Venat and Hermes scenes repeatedly while the chat is spammed with "MOMMY" and "GIGACHAD". >_> It honestly makes me question the maturity of the audience. It also makes me wish streamers wouldn't read chat while they play. Some of them you can see it influences their opinion.

As for Ra-la, the thought occurred to me that returning to the star was such a fundamental part of the Ancients' beliefs yet in The Plenty they had made themselves immortal and by creating Ra-la to 'exterminate' them were abdicating their duty as stewards of the star. This is essentially the antithesis of what we know of the Ancients. I feel like this is the case with almost all of the writing in EW, it presents conclusions while providing little evidence the one they arrived at was likely.

It was a very cheap plot device. The writers needed to come up with some power source that Meteion could wield to defeat the ancients.

Mmh, no I think it's the other way around.
It presents evidences but reaches conclusions ignoring them. For example this infamous scene at the end of Elpis segment. We see through Argos that the ancients in front of Ktisis are witnesses aware of the existence of "azem's familiar", we see Emet-Selch annoyed that his memory got played. But we reach the conclusion that it's better to not try to explain what happened, ignoring that there are elements presented just before that could have weighted in favour of the re-explanation.
