An empty world is soo fun to explore -.-
I'd prefer a mix.
Have the dungeons open for random exploration, but allow them to be instanced by parties, adding bosses traps and the like.
I agree, the game needs more open dungeons than instanced raids.
This was also my comment in the last question of the poll.
The point of an MMO is to play on an open world and explore it.
If there are some instances, it is ok, but I dont want to see the focus in there.
Da brat' mir doch einer ein Chocobo!
Nah, the point of an MMO is to team up with people to get gear to be able to get gear to be able to get gear to be able to get gear to be able to...
MMO worlds are full of those "oh, neat" moments but no one buys an MMO saying "Gee wiz, can't wait to spend the next five years of my life aimlessly wandering a digital landscape."
Here are the top three reasons people buy MMOs:
1) Brand recognition
2) PVP
3) Depression
Exploration in an MMO world gets old fast. It doesn't take long for "Oh, neat" to turn into "Oh, that again."
Id rather a smaller open world that's alive than the dead one we have now.
My favorite moments in XI were seeing the dragon dive into the lake near Tavnazia Safehold. The crickets in the highlands. The rainbow in La Thiene.
Those are the things that leave a lasting impression.
I agree. Personally I don't really care for instances, but if they must put them in I would like them to have at least some open dungeons. Especially areas where you fight relatively difficult NM's for quests that only require a few people (3-6), as well as areas you can group exp in.
And for the FFXI people, when I say dungeon I'm thinking of places like Crawler's Nest, , Mines, Quick Sand Caves, King Ramperre's Tomb, etc. Places that are connected to other areas through tunnels that have roaming NM's with decent items, plenty of mobs, and that's used as a quest destination. I don't see much of that in XIV, but I hope it's in the future.
