Tbf, Medica II does have a higher cure potency than Cure 2 after level 85 and WHM doesn't have the toolkit of the other healers to manage without dipping periodically into their GCD heals so I can at least forgive the occasional Medica II but spamming it is annoying.Only because I don't hear it nearly as often as I hear Medica IIs. And I didn't say I want to keep those sounds only that they're not top priority to get rid off
I've had a couple of noodle heal spammers in SB/ ShB dungeons when leveling tank but by the gods, that Medica II spam... I had healers trying to heal wall to walls with Medica II.
The only fun thing about it was trying to click off the regen of every unnecessary Medica II as fast as I could. Nice additional difficulty during NM.
I'm aware that the total potency of Medica II outclasses Cure II at 85+.Tbf, Medica II does have a higher cure potency than Cure 2 after level 85 and WHM doesn't have the toolkit of the other healers to manage without dipping periodically into their GCD heals so I can at least forgive the occasional Medica II but spamming it is annoying.
But you don't heal a wall to wall in any dungeon by spamming Medica II. Period. There is absolutely no excuse for it. None. I'll not bend over backwards and make mental gymnastics to come up with reasons why those poor WHMs might have thought it's a genius idea to spam a heal with initial potency of 200 (in the dungeons I've mentioned) and constantly clipping their own regen.
Medica II ONLY has a higher potency than Cure II at 85+ AND when you get close to full duration of the regen instead of clipping it by spamming. Since neither was the case: no excuse.
And making Medica II with full duration stronger in single target than Cure II was a gross oversight and it encourages to just put on regen, Medica II and spam Cure I while pretending to be so busy healing instead of using more useful skills.
It's like Freecure 2.0. Because more traps was just what WHM needed.
I doubt most WHMs that heard somewhere that Medica II is now stronger than Cure II will take the time to see where it applies.

I'm honestly in favor of just sticking 30 second cooldowns on basic aoe GCD heals like Medica and 60 seconds on the big ones like Medica II. Tweak Ultimate and 4th boss Savage if necessary. 1000 total potency on all players with no cooldown is ridiculously strong and mana or the miniscule dps loss isn't much of a limitation, which leads to players leaning on GCD heals as a crutch and not bothering to learn or even use most of their toolkit. Why would they when spamming the same few GCD heal buttons works for them?
GCD heals are simply too strong and always available, so it's no surprise inexperienced players just blindly churn them out.
But then Regen has a higher potency than Medica II, so if you're looking for a HoT you use Regen and if you need an immediate "tank is going to die" heal, you still have to Cure II.Tbf, Medica II does have a higher cure potency than Cure 2 after level 85 and WHM doesn't have the toolkit of the other healers to manage without dipping periodically into their GCD heals so I can at least forgive the occasional Medica II but spamming it is annoying.
99% of the time it isn't a split second calculated decision that both the tank and group need healing but the tank will survive with a HoT. It's just blind spam in the vague hope the HoT will do something if damage happens, or worse, just pressing buttons to try and pretend to be useful.

Thank you - great to know it's way better to cast when the buff is already up and be even more careful not to ever let it fall off, since that's our highest damage outside of our 2 minute dance. More knowledge is always helpful (so I hopefully am never the topic of one of these stories in here haha).I'm not a DNC main, but have a firm understanding of the tooltips and rotation. As you probably already know, activating Standard Step locks you out of all your other GCDs until you execute Standard Finish. The steps don't cause damage by themselves but rather pump up SF's overall potency along with the damage boost it gives you and your dance partner. Assuming you perform both of the required steps, the 720 pot and the 5% damage boost is applied when you execute SF. This is when you will see the damage and the DMG buff register in the chat log.
Furthermore, I had some confusion with this tooltip that you might share, and that was whether or not the bonuses are applied to the initial SF being executed. The answer to that is no. They will be applied on your next SF, but will be given to your Technical Step/Technical Finish which you will immediately do following SF.
The idea behind mechanics like this is the non damage GCDs you use are returned to you when using the actual damage skill. WHM Afflatus Misery and NIN Mudras are other examples of this.

Lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one. I had a dungeon the other night we struggled in because when things were going south, the SGE only used E.Prog or E.Diag as a solution. I was in a P3S prog the other week too where the whm stood center on ads phase and kept spamming Medica 2.I detest the sound of most GCD aoe heals in general because I've heard them get spammed so many times. If I could turn off specific sound effects, Medica II would be the first to go followed by EProg.
In my recent MSQ roulette I had a WHM that just spammed Medica II during every boss fight and even SC it on the run between cutscenes. Nothing was happening, everyone was full life and they just spammed 4 Medica II in a row, ran from left to right and back, spammened 3 Medica II in a row and so on. The entire 40min that is Prae. I was one step short of turning off game sounds.
The worst offender by far are WHMs but many SGEs really fight for that 2nd place in being the most annoying and ear bleeding-inducing healer.

I forgot to turn on stance, we wiped, healer left immediately.
We clicked look for new healer button, waited 40 seconds, got a new healer and cleared dungeon without incident.
Not a word was spoken about it.

Got E7N from roulette as a GNB. For some reason my brain just decide that matching colors would make sense. And apparently both healers also made same mistake. We wiped once. Second attempt things went ever so smoothly. That's definitely an embarrassing mistake to make.
I still get the annoyance though. Just now I got out from being paired with Medica II bot WHM in E8N which I queued manually as an AST for a glam token & hopefully the orchestrion...Only because I don't hear it nearly as often as I hear Medica IIs. And I didn't say I want to keep those sounds only that they're not top priority to get rid off

Every instances of damage happening? Medica II. They ain't even letting the ticks do its magic. Absolute Zero? Medica II 3 times in a row. Light Rampant? Medica II 4 times in a row. Absolute Zero spam before intermission? Medica II---no wait, they can't. They ran out of MP. I don't even saw Thin Air. They typed in chat while the Gaia's scene was playing: "Haha sorry, I can't heal without MP xD".
Oh Lord, how it pains me to notice all of these.
I'd like to hazard a guess that not even these Medica II-bots realize that its total potency is larger than a shot of Cure II. They use it because it looks comfy/wowza, requires no target, and just hope for the best.Tbf, Medica II does have a higher cure potency than Cure 2 after level 85 and WHM doesn't have the toolkit of the other healers to manage without dipping periodically into their GCD heals so I can at least forgive the occasional Medica II but spamming it is annoying.
wanted to share this screencap I took a couple days ago from the 3rd nier raid lol, beautifully captioned in my channel with, "haha.. would never do a BLM so wrong like this.. just japes.."
I'm tanking Bardam's today. Things go well enough. The healer calls for a pause just before the final boss and stays yalms away from the boss area. I stand just before it.
The DPS proceed to hop around the edge of the boss area. One isn't really sticking to the edge though and eventually aggros the Yol. Hilarity ensues as quick work is made of the first DPS, then the other eventually gets wrecked, but not before I get invited to move to the sealed area. (That's a big no from me.)
Healer comes back "Did u engage lol"

Today I learned that it is possible to survive a nearly-full Blood Rain in Haukke Hard if you quickly cast group shields and Kerachole. Granted my butthole puckered right before.
