Historically Accurate Samurai as a Job Class.

Would you guys want it, in addition to the romanticized version we have already, just with the former having a different name? If so, how would you design it and what name would you give it? And if no, why not?

For myself, I'd love to have a tank or light armor DPS traditional Samurai that fights kind like how Furon in Final Fantasy Dissidia did with multiple weapons he'd use one at a time or couple of them simultaneously, though with our TS (Traditional Samurai) wielding the naginata as their main weapon and the other weapons they possess imbued with the power of centuries of prayer, Susano, but on a much smaller scale.

    EDIT:

They’d need to add peasants to the countryside for them to assault and rob

Hey, that's what SAM is for xD
I'd agree with this only if they add mounted horse fighting

and samurai armor from Ghost of Tsushima

It's more a case of having strong job identity and timing.

Like, would the "TS" variant be more desirable than other established Final Fantasy jobs that haven't made an appearance yet (like Viking or Mystic Knight)

As is, we already have an Archer-type job, and a polearm-type job. So should another job use them, it would need to be fairly different and more compelling than just using an entirely different weapon (As in, why make a second bow job when you can just use Crossbows; similarly with polearms vs a bo staff). This is not to say it can't be done, but that it would need to be compelling or have a strong identity. This can be seen with the various "Sword" jobs, and that while there are many of them, each uses a fairly distinct type of "sword", fighting style and general historical culture (Broadswords, Two-handed, Katana, Rapier, Daggers).

Secondly is the timing. Jobs are not necessarily tied directly to expansions, but we DID have our "East Asian" expansion so it is less likely to see another "East Asian" themed job.

All that said, sure- anything is possible... just I feel it's unlikely.

I could reasonably see them having another Othard-focused expansion that covers Nagxia, Hingashi, and other untouched territory for...some reason as there's certainly enough landmass to work with.

I feel like that would probably be much further down the line once more obvious avenues like Ilsabard and Meracydia are used, though.

    Lmao, godamit, why!!! xD

It's really sad the only traditional Samurai armor we get are unlocked through the Omega trials/raids. Even worse, I can't wear the dam helmets with this character, otherwise I'd larp around with the tank armor set on my DRK!

You know, I've always wanted to see us actually be able to attack enemies while mounted. Lol, imagine how silly the knights of Radz-a-Han would look on their Hamsas. x'D

For Viking, a one handed axe and shield like the Beast masters in Bozja use.

That be true, haha... :'3 So if something like this were ever to be thought to be added to the game, it would probably definitely be way down the line. Especially since we haven't gotten a fourth caster class or another job class that shares gear with Ninja yet. I would definitely want to see a new caster and scout gear wearing class before a new class like TS ever pops up.

That's true, too! Dragoon uses at least one weapon that's a scythe, but still uses it like a pole arm. So, in terms of flexibility, I'm absolutely positive the FFXIV dev team could come up with a unique way a TS could use a similar pole arm weapon like a Naginata compared to that of the Dragoon's spear and a Reaper's scythe and their respective fighting styles.

yeah, most SAM armor are more like ronin armor.
Which I guess IS appropriate considering we don't serve anyone.
