*sigh* FFXIV players please wake up to flawed writing challenge...

If after 10 years Y'shtola's character has gone literally nowhere, it's time to sideline and retire her. But I suppose her alleged fans want her to become this game's Sylvanas, despite being far less interesting than her. Forgive me, but I'm not willing to tolerate another 10 years of her continued presence with how little she contributes.

Give us another Ysayle, Ryne, literally any other female character that shows meaningful growth over the course of the story.

'' Fake dying '' isn't unique to her and I don't really count the two times she used Flow.
First time Thancred went through it too and got out while she didn't.
Second time Emet was around and it made sense he'd help ( especially with EW in mind I'd say ), if he hadn't been around she would've been stuck.
I mean even with Y'shtola getting almost killed by Zenos, Alisae gets almost killed by Fordola in the same expansion.
Y'shtola spends significantly more time out of commission than Alisae does too it's basically a meme how she has just been gone for almost two expansions.

She can empathize with people she's sorta like a younger Matoya.
Matoya is an asshole a lot of the time too but it's clear she does care just because someone isn't uwu doesn't mean that they lack empathy.
Y'shtola has been underutilized by the writers and hasn't really developed much at all.
But that doesn't make her a Mary Sue which is the premise of your thread.

Just because you dislike a character or whatever doesn't mean you can just randomly throw out all of these buzzwords and have it make sense.

I don't dislike her. I'm indifferent to her. She'd be a better character if I at least had a reason to hate her. I have no reason to feel anything towards her other than the fact that her underdevelopment now sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the Scions. I find it interesting that those who are arguing me against me though are basically just arguing what the definition of a Mary Sue is though, and not trying to argue she is an underdeveloped character.

If it's so important to you to win that argument though that you'll keep harping on about it though then fine, she's not a Mary Sue even though she never shows weakness even when she gets defeated. Even though the decisions she makes are never shown to be wrong. Nothing ever stresses her out. She could probably casually sip tea as the universe fell into flame around her. She is however, an undeveloped character.

There are so many better designed female characters that the fact Y'shtola is the postergirl for this game is straight up criminal.

If you put Y'shtola up against a character with Venat's face and classic long fantasy hair in any other outfit that isn't the robe the ancients wear, there would be no contest as to who would be more popular. Lyse, while a grating character for various reasons also looked quite decent once she got her red dress. Yugiri has always looked great as well, etc.

Completely agree with you, hell even Zenos is a prettier woman than Y'shtola could ever hope to be.

I despise Y'shtola and eagerly await the day she exits the plot. She brings little to nothing to the party aside from the occasional sassy quip, and takes up space that could easily go to literally anybody more interesting.

Her sister Mitra is more appealing due to the time spent with her on the Summoner Job quest series, and I wish they VA'd her for the rescue scenes in Gridania

Just because she hasn't had an expansion focusing on her development yet, doesn't mean she won't in the future.

When would that be? We've already explored all the things related to her. Matoya, Sharlayan, Runar, her sister. Considering expansions from here forward are going to take place in new areas that will be unrelated to her, I don't know what opportunity we would have for her to be focused on.

Believe it or not, she was once the character I was most eager to see development from. I've kind of given up at this point.

Well apart from her Xenos quality plot armour , lest we forget her eyesight and her life force is on a ever decreasing timescale


She is using the "force" aether to be be able to see anything ,and its slowly killing her . If they forget that major character trait they created for her since Flow.exe V1.0 then there isnt any hope they will make something great about her.


She clearly feels for Runar and the tribe in the first , but after we kill E-Selch , yeah nope see yas ,not gonna even make a big fuss about caring for you over the last 5 years of which the tribe took me in and made me not just one of them but a leader figure!


Nah lets get back to , being specific plot point clever scholar and not much else

I'm just throwing this out here as a what if, but what if Y'shtola is being left static as a counterpoint to accentuate the growth of the other NPCs? It doesn't really do her own character much service but maybe someone on the development team thought it was a good idea to keep one element in the game static. Personally I am not for this kind of thing but you never know what goes on in the minds of the developers.

Agree with the TC, I always get upset when people obsess over her. She gets like no development compared to the other scions and I hate her smug attitude, she hasn't done anything to deserve acting so high and mighty. She's like Lightning from FFXIII, a pretty face with no personality acting like they're better than everyone else, and that's all you need for the masses to drool over a character. Though I also just want her retired, alongside the other scions. Give us a new party to start this new adventure with.
