Boy, what a terrible experience - the worst I've ever had in 8 years playing this game. I feel incredibly disappointed, defeated, and that honestly I should just quit this game.

This instance, with its grueling and cruel two time Doom mechanic, is soul crushing. I felt like I've learned NOTHING in the years I've run all the numerous dungeons, trials, and raids that I've run.
I think DR is definitely on the harder side for a new player.
Having said that, there are a few things to know about DR which can help. Like all other normal content, DR is very easy once you get the gist of it. This may take about 3 runs before you understand everything.

Bring some defensive essence and graduate to offensive ones once you get an idea of what's happening.
Focus target an experienced person and follow their lead. But understand that there are specific player mechs as well.

When and if you want to actually grind this out for your relic, I would suggest researching on joining a Party Finder setup to bring DR specific essences. These cost clusters but you can also buy them on the market board. These essences only work in DR but they give amazing stat bonuses. With a PF, everyone brings one of these essences. The overall dps is so high that almost all mechanics for each boss is skipped and DR itself takes 13-17mins. So in the end you don't really need to understand everything going on.

Honestly, I'd say skip defensive essences altogether. They are essentially pointless as they won't save you from the doom you get for failing multiple mechanics in a row and if you are dying from things that aren't the doom, your healers just aren't doing their jobs. I'd say start with skirmisher/aetherweaver and then upgrade to more specialized stuff/DR exclusive essences when you've got the hang of the dungeon.
