Cute. Hope that gave you a good giggle.
I've since checked a bit more closely with distances given i'm not in a duty and i get these distances from New Zealand. Europe granted isn't the best choice but it does appear Japan would be. It's also interesting to point out that many NA servers are listed as congested and we don't necessarily need more people coming there right now.
And as I pointed out in one of my first replies i would eventually like to see cross regional travel as well.
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/
13,413 km - Distance from New Zealand to Frankfort
10,771 km - Distance from New Zealand to Los Angeles
9,233 km - Distance from New Zealand to Tokyo

Mate, you need to be in Australia to understand Tigerlilley's point. I also live in Australia and tried playing on an EU DC. The difference between playing on NA and EU is night and day. In NA, while my ping is high, I can still do a rotation mostly perfectly (can even double weave and dodge an AoE right as it goes off on a blue moon. It's crazy!). Whereas when I played on an EU DC, it was awful. Actions felt extremely delayed to the point where RDM was hell to play (imagine hardcasting Verthunder/aero despite having the Dualcast buff. I felt like I was back in ARR August 2013 PS3 days when I'd still hardcast Flare despite using Swiftcast).
This is the rub, though. The reason we don't have cross region is because of Japan not wanting us there. It was stated as a difference in "values". Which, fine. Everyone speaks english, NA would be fine. However, the Aus/NZ communities that have spent the last 9 years on the Japan DC will still have a lot of friends there from SEA who didn't move over so I don't expect them to write off the JPN datacentre as easily as I am.
I am sorry you feel that more players would be a bad thing. However, they are opening an entire new datacentre on NA, that will be able to cross with Primal, Aether and Crystal. I don't think space will be an issue then.

I won't dispute your experience and yes I do not live in New Zealand or Australia but I play on Sophia and my game play seems fine and the distance for me at least from the East Coast is 14,049 km Distance from Washington DC to New Zealand. Japan is considerably closer at 10,894 km Distance from Washington to Tokyo and the game has always played fine for me there as well.
Well it does make you wonder about the motivations for delaying DC travel everywhere and you may be right about Japan not wanting others there I don't really know. I play in Japan although granted not as much as I used to since I've gone to other servers I enjoy more but the Japan community has always seemed nice to me.This is the rub, though. Okay? The point is that NA would make more sense from a ping perspective for us (Aussies/Kiwis) than EU. You also need to know that the Internet in Australia is actually pretty terrible (and it still makes me so angry. It could have been so much better and future-proofed, but... that's a political can of worms completely off-topic to this site).I won't dispute your experience and yes I do not live in New Zealand or Australia but I play on Sophia and my game play seems fine and the distance for me at least from the East Coast is 14,049 km Distance from Washington DC to New Zealand. Friend, I tried. I drew pictures. It didn't help. They're an American and their ping is fine to EU. Lets just leave it at that.Okay? Again your missing the point that you need to be in oce to understand that eu is not a viable option for us to play on. I moved from eu not long after they moved all the servers from na to eu back in 2015.

The ping issues aside, I'm glad I have 2 characters who are finished with the MSQ, because the alt I made for the 21d sub can't get any groups for MSQ stuff in a timeframe I'd consider playable. And not even only as DPS.
I'm trying to level an alt as well and it's getting to the too hard stage![]()
