In its current state, I don't see how NFTs would work with video games, but who knws what would happen in the future.

So, I won't care about NFT now, and I'll decide in the future if it's something I want or not, just like I did with subscription gaming and cash shop.

To outright say "no" at this time would be pointless as I have no example to judge by in any of the games that I've played.

The main way I can see Square using them working so far is kind of like a virtual amiibo. The NFT itself has no interaction with the game, but it interacts with a purpose built tool that gives you benefits in the game.

E.g. "Rare Tier Nomura Artwork NFT! Buy one of this collection of 100 and get exclusive emotes/mounts/glamour for XIV and a new summoning materia for FF7R!"

The least labour intensive way of integrating NFTs with video games is just to not bother, and just set up marketplaces for them that the company can take a heavy cut of when people engage in speculation. Then to use them as keys to gatekeep extra content.

I feel like that example is better served by the online store and having the NFT be associated with more than one game could be problematic.
