Can the Equipment Preview be improved?

Currently, if you get a new piece of equipment, and you want to see what it looks like, you click the preview button and you get a little screen that shows a very poor rendering of the equipment, that doesn't show how it looks with what you're currently wearing, and if you're playing a male Hyur (at least), dresses you in tighty whities that any Manderville would be proud of.

Is there a way the preview window can be improved so as to be, I don't know, useful?

You can adjust the size of the preview window, and you can also zoom in and out within the preview window
There are options to select within the preview window to a) show your current equipment and b) save your current preview loadout.

with the second option you can preview a whole other glam of items you don't have to see what pieces you might want to farm...

i would actually like a way to pause character animation during previews
its ok for most jobs but Monk and DNC constant movement actually makes it hard to see the weapons some times

I was not aware of any of this. I will need to look into it.

Like many things in this game, there's plenty of hidden functionality, with the operative word being "hidden", and the defaults being less than helpful. See also "The first time you raid."

I wish you could set the default underwear for your character on your preview screen. The glossy white fabric always looks off to me, and black would be less distracting from the gear.

It's also just another chance to play with character glamour and individual outfits, even if nobody else will see it.

Definitely, or maybe the ability to apply /cpose. Some jobs just don't have a pose that shows certain parts of the outfit well.

Click the cogwheel thing in the preview window on the top. And make the window 150～200% its a life changer.

You right click on the item and select "try on" to try it on, which doesn't seem particularly hidden to me.

The window that opens has several buttons at the bottom that tell you what they do when you mouse over them (and several are the same as your character screen), which doesn't seem particularly hidden to me.

Maybe it's just me, though.

Not hidden, but the Save/Delete Outfit button (the one that lets you try on multiple pieces) isn't particularly intuitive – nothing happens the first time, and pressing it again brings up the confirmation prompt "delete saved outfit data and remove all but last gear equipped?" which sounds rather scary to someone who doesn't understand what it does.
