You make some great points OP , I appreciate the discussion

    Ref Shtola

There was backlash in 2.0 when they "killed" Princess Peach in Uldah , reverted because they didn't stick to their beliefs and strengths, and altered the intended plot thus changing her destiny, post MSQ.

Now to Shtola , have you seen the front page of the reddit mainsub ? Every week there are at least two commission adverts masquerading as "fan" art , of Shtola that are ALWAYS heavily upvoted, especially if said art has very generous proportions in certain areas of her body

Now try to imagine if they dared kill "mommy/goddess/mainwaifu/i'd simp for you: shtola" ( you should see what else they call her on the main sub , its depressing) there would be a massive main forum/twitter meltdown.

And to be honest , that's all it would be , just a few hundred rage/cry/omgkillmyself" twitter threads a few maybe would unsub for a month but that would be it , whilst the rest of us adults would just move along and the plot continues without her

They just cant bare the thought of upsetting a small subset of very vocal social media addicts .

Their complete lack of guts to kill any main characters has seriously started to hurt my enjoyment and opinion of the game. It was ignorable up until Endwalker...but the fake death conga line underlined, highlighted, and shined a spotlight on it.

Now it feels as if there are no stakes or consequences to anything.

Game of Thrones was awesome BECAUSE they chopped off Ned Starks head. (shut up about S8)

The Walking Dead was awesome BECAUSE Sophia was killed.

But everyone knows Waifu and GQ model aren't dying, neither are the kids.

Reminds me of the Red Letter Media Critique of SOLO: A Starwars story . They went out of their way to try and make the audience believe Han and Chewy were in great danger on the rail track heist , fully aware that we know they they survive because this is a pre a new hope era story.

Kills any suspense , emotion and suspense of disbelief.

Stranger than Fiction was also a great movie when it spoke upon death and how impactful it is to the plot of a story.
This will always be my favourite quote:

“No one wants to die but unfortunately we do. You will die someday, sometime. Heart failure at the bank. Choke on a mint. Some long, drawn-out disease you contracted on vacation. Even if you avoid this death, another will find you and I guarantee that it won't be poetic or meaningful.”
    Warning EW spoiler
When the scions "die" at the end of EW, it felt cheap. It was predictable what was going to happen. They're going to live, of course.
Had I the choice of writing, Alisae would have persihed in the crossing scenario of Garlemald.
Theancred would have perished and been the soul guiding essence on Ultima Thule.
Yshtola would have given her life to break Meteion's Ultimatum instead of Zenos.
As a result of these deaths, Estinien would have become tempered and become more loyal to protecting what the scions stand for. Perhaps even the new leader.
Alphinaud would become detatched and angry (which could lead to a personal questline where we are able to change his attitude or let him be)
The consequences of motions of deaths changes things that imo must be changed.

See another take I disagree with is that the main cast had to die for the story to be interesting or impactful. Personally I wouldn't have enjoyed any of the deaths in that spoiler tag at all, and losing those characters in those ways more than likely would have tanked my own enjoyment of the story.

Death isn't the be all end all negative consequence and I don't think it's at all necessary to tell a good story. I mean don't get me wrong, I don't think Endwalker was spectacular or anything, but I still enjoyed it for what it was. But then I also don't mind a cheesy cliche if it's entertaining, and for me the UT story was.

    Fair.
Death doesn't, but let's be honest here. That this large group of persons are able to withstand the most dangerous battles and wars, powerful entities/gods, a .0000000001% survival chance where aether supposedly does not exist, etc.
We're bordering on immortals here haha

Even Goku gotta die uh multiple times ya know but the dragon balls actually has lore as to why people can be reincarnated so yee

edit: i also did like ut and cried there, but my cheap comment is more of an after analysis rather than in the moment
