It also helps that the ingame is heavily moderated. While the internet at large is not.
Wow! I didn’t think my post would be so controversial.
I wasn’t talking purely about ff14, I was talking more generally - of course people play 14 and other games, sometimes to escape real issues and get a break from them, and there’s nothing wrong with this.
For me toxic positivity is one of -
1. On the lines of “you’ll get over it!” - meaning, “your problem is trivial, stop complaining, you’re just looking for attention”
2. “We don’t discuss anything negative here, it’s always an opportunity” - meaning “we don’t want to hear that something sucks, it’s not to be discussed” - well guess what, things suck and people should be allowed to say so.
Both positive and negative things happen in life just because someone doesn’t want to hear any negativity, it doesn’t mean others should be denied expressing any.
Not seeing it.
Course I'm still going back and doing all the the old stuff first before going through Endwalker on my main.
So much Reputation I have to get up... Road to 80 was a blessing and a curse.
Because that's what he did, literally every line. Want an example? She was talking about (as she reiterated on a post above) people being generally against anything that is put in a negative light even if very small parts of it, including games which I am certain most will agree is a trivial subject. Later she (somehow rudely depending on your perspective, I agree) questioned how these people deal with actual non-trivial negative parts of life.
He trivialized her concerns by saying "some people are just here to have fun", as if people that have concerns aren't having fun or aren't trying to have fun, implying that unless you're blindly having fun and ignoring everything that is bad or negative, you're having fun the wrong way.
See what he did? That's an argument ad hominem, instead of addressing the topic at hand he found a way to divert the attention from it by instead attacking the person who made it, ignoring any validity of the post itself.
This and reducto ad absurdum are some of the most basic and overused fallacies by people having an argument online, it generally works but sadly for him, not with me.
When I said in simpler words exactly what I said above he went "WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT ONLY BEING THE RIGHT WAY TO HAVE FUN", see what I did? By not over explaining what I was doing I let him reveal himself as exactly the type of person I was accusing him of being, right as he launched himself in a vicious attack blinded by anger.
So, who said anything about it only being the right way to have fun? He did, heavily implying it in his speech but in such an ambiguous way that it can be backpedaled from in case it backfires. I could dissect his whole post explaining how it's a cry for attention / I'm the victim here post, but I don't wish to discuss it further because it's obvious what type of person I'm talking to, where the argument is going and it's simply put not worth my time.
Did I enlighten you about how I "misconstrued" his post?
Now seriously, it's an internet forum, I just didn't want to have a lengthy argument with someone who was acting super offended, I mean, c'mon... can we not? Please. Just, if you're mad at her send her a PM or something but don't derail the topic with "but what you said was super offensive and now I'm offended". Is that really too much to ask?

It's getting redundant to see people hop on the negative band wagon all the time. It reminds me how overly critical people are. I see some good conversations here about aspects of the game that need to be looked at. But mostly after reading a insult toward the devs I ignore that person's opinion. If a person can not discuss a system or part of the game without insulting I figure they are doing it for likes or to be the cool kid. Your opinion is not the be all end all and neither is mine. But don't insult me for liking this game or call names it just invalidates any thing you have to say of value. The title is this thread and the person posting it does a lot of controversial posting. While some good conversations have happened it's getting a bit old now.
Enjoy Life you only get one.
"Toxic positivity" is a made up phrase by people who aren't allowed to be complete jerks here.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Trying to shut down peoples arguments by just simplifying it is a bit rude. Also don’t see how those things correlate. Typically toxic positivity is used towards people who continuously defend something that other people find needs work. I think we’ve seen this especially with this community where certain people have given a form of criticism for the game, and the community can’t handle it and marks them off as trolls, how they’re so wrong, or even resorting to death threats. Look at the scottzone situation for that.
