It's very weird to me that every time a new MMO opens up, this community is always quick with being tribalistic and passive-aggressive towards it.

Like, not even "funny" weird, just genuinely off-putting.

I've had intermittent thoughts about giving WoW Classic another go over the past couple of months. *Gasp*! I still think of LotRO with a lot of fondness. *shock*!

The most fun I've had in any MMO was during the pre-BC, Vanilla, version of WoW, but I think of XIV in ways I never thought of V-WoW. XIV's my favorite MMO ever and is the one I've always come back to after derping around with other games. Are other games bad? Some are, sure, but that's a development/administrative thing, not a case of being bad because it's not XIV. MMOs are like people; we give them a chance until we find the one we want to invest time and energy into. It doesn't mean the other games are bad; they're just not to a person's specific tastes. I've got friends who love BDO but couldn't get into other MMOs. I tried ESO at launch then discovered XIV when the luster wore off and found Eorzea to be a place I wanted to spend my time in.

I really don't get why people decry a game that's not the one they've synched with as bad or DoA and get some perverse joy when it settles out with a small, but dedicated player base after the first rush. A fair number of my FC mates are going to go AWOL when Elden Ring comes out, but you know what? They still love XIV and will be back. I can't see how a reasonable person would consider this a betrayal or anything other than people wanting to play a game they're interested in and excited about.

If they grow big enough I bet they will follow PA route and take control of all their games in a distand future (if you watch game director LA interview you can tell that guy is not happy with AGS at all). Also, Smilegate is already working on a solution for all duped items. Since money is on the line this time around probably will be somewhat fixed.
