Brown is probably the worst off. Even the darkest shades are only medium brown at most. I wanted dark brown-almost-black and had to settle for purple.
It's funny how the hair color selector gives more or less a fake impression of diversity... half of the rows are actual hues with different shades (columns), but the other half is just the previous row but desaturated.

So in fact we realistically have 13 different colors with saturation variations, which leads to the problem of not having actual browns, or vivid red shades.

And that strikes me odd, because the highlight pallete actually have a different hue for each row it's pretty easy to notice that when you compare left and right. I wish we could use both color tables, or just adding more rows to the right side expanding the spectrum of hues.

I actually use the desaturated colours a fair bit – I think about half my characters.

At a skim through what I've used:
Saturated colours = red, blonde, light brown, dark yellow-green*
Desaturated colours = beige, dark purple, mid purple, pale blue, dark blue, dark green

    * might have used desaturated green if it existed but that's the last row which doesn't have one.

Generally it seems the desaturated versions of "warm" colours are too dull but "cool" colours come out nicer?

Anyway, the fact that they've just done a systematic "desaturated version of every row" means that there are a lot of variations of grey from those first few yellow rows, and looking at it properly now I see we really don't have brown at all – just an almost coincidental few at the dark end of orange.

Yeah. However seeing that they can add more colors makes me hopeful at least. The character creation options seem to be held back by technical limitations (hence why they had to copy paste 1 hyur face just for a perma stubble) - I wonder how much they can improve before having to rebuild the whole structure, if that is even feasible to do without messing with bigger things.

Another thing I'm defnitely not satisfied with is the face paint options. The colors there are either too dark or too muted - a bright red lip color only shows in certain lightning. Would be great if they added a third checkbok "Vivid" to the Light and Dark ones, but then... it might be not just something related to the color itself but rather how the lip color/face paint overlays on top of the skin - it would explain why we never get an accurate result with the palette choice.
