Brother and I cannot play together on my current world

I had been gushing about FF14 with my brother recently and he wanted to join me on my server. After doing the recruit a friend process and him purchasing a copy of the base game, we came to find out that my current world is "Congested congested" and that all of the worlds on my data center are locked as well. It'd be fine if he could hop onto another world on the data center so that we could do the "world visiting" feature, but I don't think that's even possible at the moment.

I know that it's certainly not the developers fault that this situation has arisen, but he and I are both pretty frustrated about the situation. Plus, it's hard to know when the worlds will open up again. It'd be a lot easier to wait it out if we knew it'd open up in two weeks. Other than making a new character on another world and taking up unnecessary data space (only for us to abandon the characters when Jenova opens up again), is there anything else we can do besides wait? I appreciate any advice that people have to offer

Congestion is a temporary status for the servers and often goes away in the early morning hours. Try making a character around 5am est, you'll probably be able to.

No it's not. "Congested" is a long term server status that is only removed in conjunction with maintenance. If the Server Status page says "Congested", that means no new characters or transfers for the foreseeable future.

You could wait and see if they open up at 6.1 patch time, but we don't have a set date for that yet. The next Live Letter is set for 18 Feb, so it'll certainly be after that. I would say any of the Tuesdays in March are likely dates, but we could still be waiting until April.

If you have ties to Jenova that are keeping you there and you don't want to wait, the only thing you can really do is start an alt on a server with your brother.

You can either wait, you can make an alt on their data center or you could transfer to their data center instead.
