The logic is that Square expects their customers to work everything out like adults since that's the mentality in Japan. They also feel that the "stalker/abuser/attacker" should have their feelings respected as well and think that it will hurt them to see someone removed from their friends list after being blocked. Finally, they expect us to be knowledgeable and educated about who we friend request, they don't support the idea of friend requesting people randomly.

But it is though, can at least say for sure it's not the U.S. way of doing things or Western. We just throw people under a bus and move on because we don't care enough and it's our normal to make drama public.
In countries like Japan, South Korea, etc., public drama and things related to that (that we find normal) are extremely frowned upon. You're expected to be silent if things are not to your liking, even through things like bullying in schools or darker topics.
I highly encourage you to do some research into stuff like that if you're curious.

Yes and that encourages an incredibly toxic and abusive culture that gets international news attention sometimes because of how prevalent the issue is. Not exactly the best approach.
Never said it was the best, but it's the mentality that exists. All we can do is push for it not to be the leading one in a global based game.
The way you phrased it in your post made it seem like it was an excuse for SE not to put in the effort, that's where I think people were getting bent out of shape about it.
