Will we see a range dps that truly uses guns?

What do you think we will see down the road?
I ask because both GNB and MCH share the concept but none is true to be master of guns or in FF term, a Gunner (dual wield pistols or Fusilier (moogle's job).

In FFU, the mc is a summoner that uses gun, combo systems like DNC's steps and ninja's mudras can work well with the concept too.

What does FFU stand for? I don’t think I’ve seen it before.

For a ranged gun user, I think it’s a difficult situation because of Machinist. They could add a job that dual-wields pistols and build the job around gun attacks, but then how do they differentiate it from Machinist? If they add a dual-wielding pistol job that gets its job concept from other areas (i.e it’s a Beastmaster so it has a bunch of Beastmaster like skills), then it’d run into the same problem as Bard where it doesn’t feel satisfying in terms of job identity because of two opposing job identities being spliced together.

Personally I think their best bet to implement a full-gunner job would be to do what they did with Reaper and give it a completely ffxiv unique identity. That way, they can give it an identity that’s satisfying and fleshed out whilst still embracing the ‘dual gunner’ aspect as opposed to Machinist which focuses more on the machinery (naturally lol).

For those who don't know, FFU stands for Final Fantasy: Unlimited. It was an anime from 2001-2002.
It's about how a pair of 12-year old twins and a special agent with martial arts magic from Earth end up in Wonderland, a world created from the fragments of other worlds that were eaten by Chaos. As they adventure through Wonderland, trying to look for a way home (and lookin for the twins' parents, who are scientists), they meet people from other worlds, including the aforementioned gunner that can mix different bullets to summon summons, his rival, a swordsman who uses bottles of mist to summon Mist Dragon, a chocobo, a young inventor named Cid, and evilly spoiled Earl Tyrant, who a physical extension of Chaos, and his four guardians.

Final Fantasy Unlimited and it might be pretty cool. The guy there is badass. Just check it out and you might get what OP means so. Would be way better than MCH or actual SMN.

I would love to see them added as the new game dual gunner can even mix in cannoneer into the concept for some explosive fun.

Ahh ok I see now, thanks for clearing that up everyone.

Given such a thing I don’t imagine it’d be too difficult for the devs to do as a job then. I feel like if it was ‘just’ a gun class they’d say ‘but then it’s just machinist’. But if they have something like what other people have mentioned from FFU to draw on, then they can use or reference concepts like summoning bullets to give it more of its own flavour.

Personally the idea makes me think of the Gun Mage job from FFX-2. They were essentially blue mages with guns who shot bullet containing enemy magics, and a bunch of ‘Species Killer’ skills that deals additional damage to specific enemy types. We already have the concept of ‘bullets containing aether/magic’ from Gunbreaker so i don’t imagine it’d be too much of a stretch at all for a more offensive variation of such a thing to have been developed somewhere in the game. I mean obviously we have the actual job Blue Mage but they could still incorporate elements of ‘using aether from enemies to charge the bullets’ or whatever

For this to truly happen I think splitting up Bard/Ranger is really the only way for the devs to go. They need to rip the band-aid off because it’s going to benefit everyone in the long-term. I don’t think it would ever reasonably happen of course…though they could technically market them as 2 new jobs but create it from existing animations and playstyle so it requires like half the work (somehow I doubt that but I wish lol)

I think that’s one benefit of Machinist leaning more into the machinery side of the job than the gunner aspects. It means they’re less restricted in bringing an alternative gunner type job that’s more focused on the weapons themselves than attaching things to them, since they won’t have to do anything to Machinist for it to exist. I think lol

The same could be said then for ninja.. which comes from a rogue. They need to rename all the skills that have any connotations to thief and bring thief out, maybe as a ranged using boomerangs and using scouting gear.

It always bugged me that nin has vestigial skills that dont belong on the kit coz they belong to thief. (I was a thief main in ffxi).
