VIERA AND HROTHGAR COMPLAINT MEGATHREAD

I believe it's because SE wanted to bring in a race like no other but underestimated how much work was required. The Viera honestly can't be compared to other races considering they've had numerous appearances throughout the FF franchise - they have their own distinctive style and identity, which is why we were supposed to get more exclusive hairstyles in time. SE can't take back the race exclusive-hair they gave us and at this point I don't think we'll ever have hats due to our puffy hair - they should just finish what they started and go with their original plan... It's not worth them trying to make us just like the other races because Viera/Hrothgar will never be equal to the others.

You're on the money with them not being equal to the other races & I see that as a bonus-
The other races look like they need to be updated & their hairstyles are outdated, most look the same & are boring.
I don't want Viera or Hrothgar to be like that.
I'm fine with Viera not being able to wear most hats- but their hairstyles should involve headpieces like the diadem you see them with in FFXII & some art of tactics. I don't want them to make Viera like other races because I know it won't bode well visually & the other races hairstyles are flat/ boring & I don't like them- if more hairstyles are added to Viera that the other races have (to be clear, I'm not saying they shouldn't get the mog station or reward hairs) even though it will all look like a half-done job just like the hairstyles they added due to demand.

The XIV team should start making more headgear that Hrothgar & Viera CAN wear rather than adding hats that those races won't be able to wear. I'm okay with not getting another top hat or witch hat, I'd much rather get a mage hood & hat fasteners/ tiara's & diadems.
Give me the fluffiest hair, the longest Viera hair, the weirdest mane.
Viera & Hrothgar should have their own distinctive styles & the XIV team should finish what they started in a timely manner- they'll get more support & positive feedback that way.

Random thought: If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard or read that the design team should just look at what modders do & pay them to implement those hairstyles in FFXIV, I'd have alot of money.

You read that a lot because if it's done by someone, it means it can be done, am I wrong? Now... the question would be whether XIV would see resources poured into it because it is a time consuming job.

People are so adamant about hats and hair because both Viera and Hrothgar, at their reveals, were told to be extensive customization options to make up for not wearing any headgear - at all - but turned out they landed somewhere in an unsatisfactory in between: have more limited options than an old race (Hroth even needs Fantasia to change hair...) and can use just a small portion of the head items in the game.

Reading this has actually made me realize something, now I'm worried... I'm starting to question if SE only wants to give us Modern Aesthetics and have done with it. Like you said, originally we wasn't supposed to have any headgear at all but since we were given glasses, circlets, certain hoods etc it makes me wonder if SE sees that as "finished" and therefore their original plan is scrapped? I sincerely hope not.

I definitely hope it's not just some select modern aesthetics and they are done with it. If it's a continuation of the quality we have already seen, like the ponytail hairstyle, many won't look very good to begin with. Some quality, race-specific, viera hairs would be the best way to go to make up for many of their limitations. The sad thing about many of the circlets and things is that they just look terrible on many of the hairs for viera, with the floating and clipping. Like, yeah, it happens on other races too, but not really too this extent, due to the lack of options, and sheer puffyness of viera hairstyles.

I don't know about that, or at the time they talked about it it was still up in the air at least. Bolded the relevant part:

It's possible there will be a few more for Hrothgar, but considering it only amounted to about 6 hairstyles for Viera I wouldn't be too optimistic. Mostly curious to see if they will actually let them change it at the aesthetician rather than just giving access to "all" hairstyles during character creation or Fantasia.

Considering they never touched on the fantasia issue specifically, I kind of doubt they have/will have fixed it yet, but who knows?

That was one thing I noticed as well. Instead of saying "We're looking into fixing the fantasia issue", they gave us "we're adding more hairs "

Now, Im happy about the new hairs and its kind of a step in the right direction, but the obvious elephant in the room still needs to be addressed because adding new hairs w/o addressing that fantasia issue still does nothing and wont encourage players to spend money to just once again...change something that should be allowed to be changed freely. If they moved the ability to change your pattern to something that required a fantasia, while moving the hair to the aesthecian, I'd be relatively happy considering I've never changed my hroth's stripes in the time since I created him in 5.0

Also, they need to make hroths have a normal hair selection system because of female hrothgars. You just know the fem hroths will have hair customization.

I mean we kind of have a right to be sceptical about 6.1 considering its taken them 2 years to sort it out... Also 6.0 we were given 6 questionably "popular" hairstyles so everyone's expecting SE to deliver the bare minimum for Hrothgar too.

Expect less then you won't be as disappointed.

I mean, they've already half assed both Viera and Hrothgar.....Im really rooting for them to make it so Hroths dont have to spend money to change their hair, but with how V/H have been treated in the past, Im also kind of expecting them to just....drop the ball. Granted, there arent many hrothgar players compared to other races, but I will certainly raise hell all over these forums if that "problem" isn't addressed

It's best to set yourself up for nothing happening towards Hrothgar or Viera changes until it's set in stone- you won't be disappointed that way. I've honestly given up & expect any relevant changes to happen when the next expansion comes around, and it will likely be changes noone asked for.
I remember when there was a giant male viera request thread, people would post "asking for male viera means Female Viera & Male Hrothgar won't get updates"- fast forward, here we are & folks have the surprised pikachu face because Female Viera & male Hrothgar still remain mostly untouched or given features(hairstyles) we aren't satisfied with because it's not what we asked for. (Male Viera should have come much later, btw)

I do not think what everyone is asking for here will ever be properly delivered - they seem to drop the ball in some way on every type of optional feature- And character customization is an optional feature.
Character customization is content many of us consider a main feature or wish it was an important project for the XIV team- atleast for me, having a good character creator is as important as lasting gameplay content.

The only thing I can hope we all do is keep pushing for suggestions & changes constructively.
Bump threads like this & give valuable feedback.

What I'd like to see is Viera Specific hairstyles- give Viera hairstyles we've seen in XII & Tactics- alot of long hair, wavy hair & more short hair variations (optional diadem & flowers). Finish adding the mog station hairstyles & reward hairstyles as well.
Give Hrothgar more hairstyles & make the Aesthetician accessible so they can change their hair WITHOUT spending real money.
Alot of Future headgear should be prioritized around Viera & Hrothgar- that way it's visible & other races would be able to wear it as well- or even have the skins look different on viera/ hroth & diff on the previous races. MMO's I know that do this are Blade & Soul, Black Desert & Guild Wars 2 & it works out.
