I was a bit sad the nose didn't show up and also surprised because the red nose from the reindeer worked on my Viera. They certainly didn't put much effort into it.

They can use those hats because they doesn't show no hair at all, which kind of proves that Viera's exclusive hairstyles were made without thinking a hat friendly variation.
However this is feels a bit arbitraty, because there is a big number of older head items that share the same design, of not showing the hair, and with space to let ears clip through. Those aren't available, for some reason... Maybe they were overlooked or something.
They really should have had an option for just the nose without the hat. This is especially embarassing with the event having been delayed almost 3 months.

I do agree there should have been a option for just the nose. That way everyone gets something and not left out in the cold.

I would guess that possibly having the "hat" visible, even if it's just a nose, might trigger the hair to do something strange that they want to avoid happening.
That said, the obvious solution that benefits all players would be to have SEPARATE gear pieces for the nose alone and the hat-and-nose combo, especially when we have to buy them piece by piece anyway instead of being given the whole set.

I'd imagine the sorcerers and sorceresses on the Graphics teams who could have made such items compatible are working on shipping out Hrothgar F. I'm personally not expecting them to convert hats en masse until that is completed. As a Roegadyn i'd like for them to to another pass over on a number of items cuz they're stretched oddly for some pieces, to say nothing of the numerous meshes be it pants or jewelry that sink underneath my Roe's skin depending on the pose, or the various boots that clip through coats as I walk or run around. Viera and Hroth situations are clearly the more pressing needs, so I personally made peace with the fact that I'll be waiting a good long while before the Dev team can even consider what i would like them to consider regarding Roegadyn M player models. And thats aside from the numerous issues other player races have had (which I'm personally not aware of as I've been a Roe this whole time).
But yea even if it meant item database bloat they should have had the nose be a separate item, with the hat/nose combo being available alongside it.

Funnily enough, there is an example of this happening, though it might've been fixed since it was discovered. The Hempen Coif and all hats sharing the same model would not appear when worn by a Viera, but toggling your helmet on while wearing one (or a hat glamoured to look like one) would disable your hair physics.

WellIt's probably a resource issue. They stated way back with shadowbringers that the heads on the two races are not using the same frame. That basically means that for them to get hats, the dev team would have to recreate every single helmet and hat in the game twice over just for those two races.
1. THere is literally no excuse for newer stuff considering, if its not a rehash of some old dungeon item, it should be created with viera and hrothgar in mind anyway since it has to be modeled anyway
2. The nose is a literal *sphere*. How hard is to to just stick a sphere over their nose? >_>

Oh yeah, I remember there were a number of issues early on with certain items turning hair or ears off, or failing to. Was there a list somewhere of all those instances?Funnily enough, there is an example of this happening, though it might've been fixed since it was discovered. The running theme of Viera and Hrothgar getting hats that fully cover the hair, but not things that let it partly show, points to there being a more technical issue behind it that can't be solved by just putting more effort into the individual hats. Otherwise it makes no sense for random dungeon headgear to work while many of the job gear hats do not.1. And I don't think the clown hat is just about the difficulty of "sticking a sphere on the nose", but might have issues because it's still the same gear piece being used by other races who DO get a hat that requires the upper part of the hair to switch off.
If the command "turn off upper hair when this hat is equipped" is set at a global level, and that command does something weird to Viera/Hrothgar, then that weird thing might happen when they equip the clown hat even though it isn't a hat for them.
That's why I'm saying the nose on its own should have been a separate piece. That would allow it to have its own display settings that don't instruct the hair to turn off.
