I LOVE new Summoner. I could not STAND the complex, bloated, nightmarish mess that was the cobbled together version of the SMN we left.
I enjoy not tracking some superfluous meter, or managing rolling DoT's.
Things I enjoy about SMN now:
+ It is visually consistent and fulfills the power fantasy of a SMN (Finally)
+ The gem phases, at level 90, feel different from each other and two of them are satisfying
+ I can focus most of my attention on the fight
+ It is controller friendly, while having you move your hands with enough cadence to not be utterly boring
The issues:
- Damage is a little low
- Pheonix phase kinda sucks. Like, it feels like a downgrade from Bahamut
- Ifrit phase is just bad design (I really shouldn't go melee range without having any sort of on demand disengage as a caster)
- Still no Shiva/Ramuh/Levi anywhere in the kit
- Pre 90 the gem phase is pretty bland
- Buffs requiring carbuncle out is pretty atrocious
But all in all, while I wouldn't have ever dreamed of trying to make the nonsense of previous SMN iterations work, I am pleased with this and have leveled it to 90. Even if they change nothing else, I still personally feel it is a significant improvement from a design standpoint and will continue to enjoy it.
I'm going to just say it here that SMN and SCH are likely both getting simplified and I think it's a good thing given that it's one of the old 2.0 lessons learned situations. The problem is that SMN/SCH are really archanist and the idea was to have a way to make archanist have more than one role.
The big issue right now is that the learning process happens from leveling up a job on easy content going into harder content. Because both are the same job, people level up but never play the other job, so it turns into a free level boost potion and undermines the learning process that is supposed to take place. I would not doubt that scholar might be the worst played healer in the game due to the coupling.
There is another option: you could always quit and uninstall the game.
The only person forcing you to play something you no longer enjoy is you.
Who said I don't enjoy the game? I do; kindly keep your assumptions to yourself. I merely want a more robust set of caster options. Melee is up to 5 distinct options now so I don't think it's unreasonable to want one more, one that actually hard-casts spells. Especially seeing as one was very recently taken away and replaced with something closer to a MCH in playstyle than the casting roster.

Well, you're not getting more caster options for at least another 2.5 years.Who said I don't enjoy the game? I do; kindly keep your assumptions to yourself. You could always reinstall the game then.
Also, there's a caster that already hard casts spells. It's called Black Mage. You should look into it.
I am fully aware when new jobs are released, and I do play BLM occasionally. What I would like are the options every other role enjoys more of a variety of now, and fully expect such an option in 7.0.
Why are you even posting? Just to try to get a dig at someone? Is your response to everyone with a grievance to tell them to uninstall? If your posting gimmick is a ruder Aveyond kindly don't post instead.
Or you know, the DPS role literally called "caster" could actually cast since there are already 3 physical ranged jobs if that's not your thing.
The biggest issue is that square just can't reconcile that some people won't play some jobs optimally. Instead of accepting that people will do that and complain about jobs being hard, they lower the skill ceiling on them. Sure it might make the more casual players happy, but even then for a job like this it's very rarely going to make someone who hated the job start loving it and want to main it. Meanwhile those who enjoyed it before feel alienated.
The only version of Summoner that was superior to this one was Stormbloods IMO. Since then every single one has had massive glaring issues. I still am playing on it and loving it though, prog has been much more friendly compared to the crap show that was trying to prog week one eden when I gave up and swapped to black mage from carpal tunnel.
Do I got some issues with the job? Yeah. Still having fun with it though. Next expac lets see levi, ramuh, shiva be the go to's after Pheonix is summoned, and also give a consistent buff of some kind to maintain that ups the jobs overall damage output. Also, more oGCD's. The lack of casts should mean I should be slamming oGCD's. Let's get a visual overhaul to Energy Drain and Fester/Painflare. Move it back up to 3 Aetherflow stacks and lets get the cooldown on it back down to 30 seconds. Summoner should feel busy no matter what state it is in.
