The Aurum Vale requires the Darkhold quest is a bad idea.

So pretty much I missed the boat on Darkhold. It took me about a year to get my first class to level 50 due to the fact most people I started the game with quit after a month, I had nobody to exp group with. I did not have a level 50 when Darkhold was out.

Now that I do I was looking forward to doing the new raids since people would be actually be doing them now.

Raid attunements are a pretty bad idea and for someone new to the game it just creates a higher barrier of entry. This leads to if your trying to join a linkshell or raid group you will basically be auto declined because you don't have attunements. I seen this happen in so many other games.

People do not want to help someone who doesn't have a clear for old content run it. It took over 2 hours of shouting to get the level 25 Ifrit clear and basically all people had to do for that was just stand there while I hit Ifrit 3 times and he fell over. I can only imagine how long it would take to form a Darkhold group where some actual work is required.

Darkhold is beyond easy now. Theres probably a bunch of other people who are in a similar situation so it shouldnt be too hard to get a group of 4+

sounds to me like what you really need is a good shell

Most people are not recruiting its very hard to get in a linkshell in this game.

Now that NM trade ins for Seals have been introduced. As well as pre-requisite raids for Aurum Vale. It's encouraging players to go back and do these dungeons for equipment and help. Ifrit is a different kettle of fish due to people doing it only for gear runs. It wouldn't surprise me if the next Primals end up have pre-requisites. All in all it's a method of inducing repetition of old content.

You can get the Darkhold quest done with a pick up group easy. You don't even have to finish Darkhold, just get past the ogre really. Plus with all Darkhold drops trade able for company seals, you should be able to find people to go.

Just because you didn't do it doesn't mean it's a bad idea for them to make it a requirement.

Also I figure that with the Jobs added it would make older content easier. Just do a bunch of shouting and I bet you can get a team of people that know the dungeon well.

I can't say I'm even close to doing any type of raid in FFXIV but I do know from experience raid attunements are a bad idea. People may say, oh it will be easy to get people to help or plenty of other people will be doing the attunement too. Yea, they may just be right at the moment but later down the road it won't be as easy. This is what happens when content becomes old and new content is released. Newer players rising through the ranks will constantly struggle to catch up and it isn't a very enjoyable gaming experience playing catch up.

the way i look at it, if you cant find a shell you arent looking hard enough, then again on my server its never been as hard cuz we actualy have some good advertising going on for shells so people have a way to research it without shouting
