No thanks. When I am on my Miqote I prefer that my ears and tail are not removed.

Which means, as some want it chopped off (just play a Hyur!) and some don't - a toggle would be the way to go.

Hats as of Shadowbringer already have a tendency to chop off ears, and now capes are chopping off tails. If i wanted to play a Hyur, i would.
They could still be tucked inside the armor and they wouldn't be chopped off.
I typically don't wear helmets that covers the whole face/ head but I am pretty sure there's loads of helmets Elezen can wear that doesn't make it obvious that they have elf ears.
The ears would simply be flattened inside the helmet it'd probably be rly uncomfortable but they're not rly chopped off, you can think of the tails the same way.

If they need to be out they could lower them I guess ( make them less '' erect '' lol ) so they're actually under the cape still but more just hanging there and not protruding out so much.
There's some cases that are rly dumb tho like the Omega gear the Scouting gear actually has a metal tail built into them but it doesn't rly change how the tail is it kinda looks bad imo.
On the Casting one the part on the back is already split in two you can see it if you look closely they could've opened it up more to make space for a tail by just widening the gap on tailed races.

They already have a couple of sets this tier that turn off the tail and it's incredibly off putting. I hope it was simply a mistake.
    If I didn't want a tail, I wouldn't be a tailed race.

No, thanks. The more and more sets do this, the more they think it's acceptable to just remove racial features. The cape itself should be disabled, if anything.

Make it a toggle so people can choose for themselves, sure. Don't force my tail away. It'll ensure that I never, ever wear that piece of gear.

Even for non-tailed races I'd actually like a cape toggle, I don't like them.
Never was a fan of cloaks in games like WoW either I always had them turned off.

I'd rather it be an option. I do not like things making my tail go away. It's a pity it cannot be like on Guild Wars 2. They have full glamour sets called outfits - mostly from the cash shop - and they are almost all tailored to each race. For the Charr, which have a tail, their outfits will have a tail opening or sleeve or sometimes special ornamentation along their tail. It's pretty cool and no sacrifices are made. But it should also be noted that Guild Wars 2 only has half as many races - so it's a lot easier to do.

For FFXIV - I think a tail toggle option would be a fair solution to many armor pieces. Those who are ok with clipping leave the tail on, and those who are bothered turn it off.

Kinda a weird thought about what to do with the tail and ears from a practical standpoint. Horse barding didn't hide the tail and usually has a cutout for it but they did have ear pockets of a sort, though they often just protected the base and front of the ear.
Interesting to ponder what would actually happen if we had tails and large moveable ears

Toggle tail makes a lot of sense to me. Would be cool if it had three, normal, off, and super sayian . Though tail length and type would drastically change how cool a tail wrap like the super sayians would be.. lol. Then armor would never remove your tail, ideally tail armor is brought back, but if not you can choose other options if you want to.

If you go back to ARR and up until about later Stormblood (i could be mistaken); tails and ears (even Elezen's) were accommodated at best and allowed to clip through at worse. At the very least during Shadowbringers began cost cutting (or time saving) by having hats turn off racial features.
Now they're doing it in Endwalker, and given the fact that the job gear at level 89 accommodates racial features and the moonmoon gear at 90 decides to clip said racial features off, i'd say that this is a choice they're making rather than it being necessity.

We should not be making excuses for Square-Enix (The multi-billion dollar company, if you forgot) as to why their cost and/or time cutting measures 'work'.
And, just because you seem to be really obsessing about this.. tucking what would essentially be an extension of one's spine into the pantleg of their armour would only not work, but i imagine excruciatingly painful.
