Let's not do that. I don't think there's any room for xenophobia or needless division here. It's bad enough that these stupid pointless borders exist to begin with in the real world, we don't need to be constructing them around ourselves in a virtual world as well.
Hey all,
i would like to contribute to this topic and open it again, cause i just read that in the patch 6.1 should be added "logical data center travel" and "physical data center travel" is still being considered based on players opinion. I will really appreciate if region travel will be implemented in the near future. I've got friends on NA datacenters (they started play FFXIV sooner than me) and i cannot play with them, cause with my EU friends we have characters on EU DC. Also finding party through party finder should be easier after that i guess. At this time, sometimes it's really hard to find party on older extreme trials for example. You have to browse several discord servers which are focused on this, /yelling in the cities etc..
Also, how can i let Yoshi and team know that we will really appreciate this cross-region travel feature? Is there any chance that they will read it on this forum? (sorry for dumb question, i'm newbie on the forum).
Have a good one! ^^

I do not see any issues with allowing OCE <—> NA <—> EU as they almost all originated from the NA DC.
I understand why JP wants to stay private and have no issues should they want to remain that way.
He only speaks Japanese, but your post here lends voice to other posts that the community team may take note of and relay to SE.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

I also have friends in EU that I would love to play with but can't. I'm stuck with DSL so my internet is barely adequate for playing in my own region as it is. This probably wouldn't be any better with EU datacenter travel but I could give it a test drive before deciding to put a character over there.
I understand the caution, but really if markets and general conduct are factors in the decision, then:
Make Datacenter travel more restrictive. No buying/selling/trading. Just overworld missions and Duty Finder/Party Finder stuff.
And about conduct: different regions have different rules about conduct. Before you can initiate Datacenter Travel, you have to click through a disclaimer page listing those rules per region. You accept the risk of being banned or expunged from the datacenter if you violate them. Period. A certain number of reports get you tossed back to your datacenter with a light ban on travel to that region based on how many/what you did. (And yes, I know this can be abused but there's no way around that for pretty much anything--I feel like this is fair).
I really want this. We're so close to breaking down the old regional borders. It's 2022, LET'S GO.
Bringing this back up in light of the recent news release.
This!
I transferred to JP DC from Jenova a few days ago because my friends and acquaintances are there. But I had to leave my FC and my friends on NA behind, which was a hard decision to make.
Cross-region travel would allow me to play with my friends without losing everything on my homeworld.
Also, sometime I would pull an all nighter during holidays, allowing cross-region travel would let me switch DCs based on their prime time. I would say it is a nice feature to have.
The biggest drawback to this function is the nightmare we have had before with world hopping.
A bug that wouldnt let you go back to your own home world. Think on that a moment, yould be literally stranded on a cross region world w/out access to ANY of your resources incl retainers. No storage. no squadrons. No way to sell stuff on the MB. no house or apartment.
Whilst I agree that its unlikely to happen, it COULD become a major issue esp if there could be no way to get you back owing to that same bug. Dont tell me that cant happen. It can.
People were stranded for days when it happened last time, and the work involved to fix it could take a long time, depending on severity and HOW MANY people and servers if affects. I get the want and need and desire for this to happen..but Yoshi and his team HAVE to also think worst case scenario. We must also remember that cold hard truth.
With respect to my esteemed colleagues, think on that and the time it may take to untangle that mess...and the possibility in some cases it may not be ABLE to be fixed or reverted.
Something to consider.
