Dungeon Mechanics are a little repetitive [[Spoilers]]

    [[Spoilers]]

I mean, this game is kind of bad when you actually look at its mechanics, compared to other MMO's.

Endwalker's dungeons are honestly some of the worst I've ever played. Not only is the 2 packs, boss, rinse repeat format rather stale but the bosses are not really that fun to fight either, their mechanics feel rather stale...

The whole "Do X, Dodge X or DIE" is a little bit too much. Punishing players in such an extreme way for the slightest mechanical error is a little too much.

This is where the divide between eastern and western design philosophies come in. Eastern games tend to be more mechanical, dance, dance revolution based then western MMO's and for such a visually stunning game, the Endwalker dungeons have been so stale... its a real shame.

Can we at least have one dungeon that is not just "Do X, Dodge X or Insta-death". I am not complaining about dungeons being "too hard"... they are just very boring, to the point where one person on your party makes the smallest mistake, they die.

I do think that the developers are using this as a crutch a bit too much to cover up the fact that they are out of interesting designs. FFXIV takes itself way too seriously, where is the Karazhan?

Where is the weird boss battles? Shadowbringer gave me a lot of hope with the Temple Splunking with Ysh'tola, that was really fun and the Fairy Castle dungeon with the Frog man but this expansion is just dull...

I'm sorry, maybe its me but Endwalker seems to want to take itself super seriously and when it segways into wierdness or fun, its all to do with those horrible space rabbits... honestly, the quests for them were terrible and felt like complete filler.

I can't tell if you're focusing on aesthetics or mechanics because your post seems to cover both in the same breath.

I found, mechanically, EW dungeons to be superior to ShB. I am rather fond of area denial and pushy-pully bosses that can ping-pong you to the afterlife in hilarious ways.

ShB gave us the Nier raids which were the same 5 mechanics repackaged in three instances.

I understand that but it is rather boring and I disagree personally, Shadowbringer's dungeons were way better in my opinion because they were more creative. I've always been of the belief that if a game has to one-shot you to be considered difficult, it is failure of creative thinking and outside the box development ideas.

I am specifically referencing MSQ dungeons which just feel more repetitive this time around.

A lot of times "weird" mechanics get really disliked by the majority of players. They like knowing what to do and how it's going to go and things like the tightrope phase of the frogboss are super frustrating if you can't do the weird thing they ask. I will say I don't feel mechanics are "do or die" all the time, though we did have quite a few of those in various dungeons like the golden boss in Dead Ends. The rest of them tend to follow the usual format of "you can mess up in the beginning, but once the combos start you cannot".

BUT.. as always people just disliking something isn't a reason to stop innovating. What is something you'd like to see in a boss encounter, in specifics, that hasn't been done before?

Thank god dungeons are actually not the main focus of this game.

Raids, Trials, Leves, Fates, Instanced areas (Eureka, Bozja) are all out there and waiting. I can also introduce you to Minimum Item level, No Echo legacy content. A true blessing to see people being surprised to see mechanics on 2-3 year old content that they never seen before

I personally have preferred good and disliked dungeons. Some I love, some I just don't want to ever see. I also try to run in different job types when I do dungeon dailies just to challenge myself.

Can I ask what would you like to see to change here? You said you want not just two mechanics, that kill people. But then wouldn't smaller mechanics that dont actually kill people be boring? Or what do you think should be done? Or you want them to be more challenging? I did not quite understand.

I think its really bad that the DPS monkeys with no life get to dictate what is fun in the game. I have always appreciated FF for its wierdness in a lot of areas and its light hearted tone juxtaposed with heavy themes (Which is why FFIX is my favourite game ever made). It just feels that the Emo's and Edgelords are the only demographic Square Enix seem to care about now. I mean "Reaper" and rock music... come on... It feels like a load of 30+ year old people trying to relive the 2000's again.

    Wow.

You uh.. should turn that derision of others tastes down a little, especially if you're asking for your own preferences to be considered.

The only dungeon I wasn't so into was the 83er, but the train idea in the beginning was fun. I might just be tired of all the tech and the sf influences, hope the next expansion takes a step back from all the magitek and spaceships.

I would like more unique challenges, like a boss that is a version of the matching game you do with Ysh'tola in SHB, that was really good. Or a boss where you have to stand on the right platform when he asks you quiz questions. I would like to see more debuffing instead of outright killing (Vulnerability is just another way to take damage), maybe you lose some abilities with each failed mechanic to make the fight harder (just an example). I would like to see a FFXIV version of the Opera Event from the Karazhan raid because that was fantastic fun to play through.

    Just more creative thinking really.

Well its true, is it not, isn't this why Square keep doing it with more "edgy" content because there are a lot of FF fans who are now in their 30's and want to go back to the grungy 2000's again. Footfalls is a great example of that, very much that style.
