Let me tell you what COVID hits. People unable to go to work also affects production. And you get a chain reaction if any of them goes shortage.

Electronics like capacitors, MOSFETs and VRMs.
DRAM (DDR5 now comes with VRM)
TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) makes most of the CPU and GPU

The chain reaction:
CPU shortage - Iphone, Android phones, PS5, Xbox, Radeon, Ryzen, Epyc, Intel GPU, Nvidia 5nm uses TSMC. Imagine the queue.
Motherboard price hike - Some component shortage. VRM is one of them. Intel B660 and Z690 pricing is getting ridiculous. I'm sure its hitting server boards as well.
RAM shortage - DDR5 is ridiculously overpriced due to VRM shortage.
Server shortage - Businesses also buys a lot of servers. If you think game servers gets priority, its wishful thinking. This is what hitting Square Enix.
Graphic card shortage - Current pricing already tells you.

OP.... you must be living under a rock and completely unaware just how much disruption this pandemic has caused. For example, I work in a power plant that currently barely has enough staff to operate due to the number of people off sick or isolating due to covid.

Plenty of places didn't shut down and a horrific number of "essential workers" lost their lives or sustained irreparable side effects from covid because they were forced to either keep working and risk getting sick, or lose their job and not even get unemployment. Teachers, bus drivers (as well as taxis and other chauffer style professions like uber drivers), and nurses have been hit especially hard and it was largely preventable if people hadn't been so fucking selfish and short sighted for like one fucking year.
