Haha well that's a pretty common joke and can often be a good indicator of a party that's not going to give you grief over stuff because it can laugh at its mistakes, pick itself up, and try again.

Yeah, wow players are why we are expected to know how to play the game after 5+ years, it's over casual bros, we lost.

Pity they couldn't balance the classes worth a damn and PvP was always a one sided stomp because faction to faction class mirror balance was a joke...

I'm sure anyone that played for any length of time remembers the infamous Commando Grav round spam and Scoundrel Scattergun stunlocks

Or how everyone and his dog played Sorcerer on the Sith side because they could just spam chain Lightning all day...

I so wanted to love that game, then they decided that as unpopular as having to get a random roll box for your loot every week wasn't frustrating enough ...let's riddle the entire game with Gacha trash.

SWTOR stands as a testament of how not to make an MMORPG

imo the only thing they got right was the questing experience and class story quests stuff. The story isn't as good as FF14's but it's fun to do and see all the different outcomes.

Just gotta look at the start date of the OP to know the OP is one of the aforementioned "wow crowd" and this topic is just intended to rile people up. They haven't even responded once since making the original topic, so you know that it was just intended as a troll post.

Incidentally, I am a "wow player" but have played FFXIV concurrently with wow for years. You can't paint everyone with the same brush. FFXIV has always had it's share of jerks, just like any other game. But now that the population is booming, the jerk pile has gotten bigger as well.

How many men am I involved with? Well that depends... do you mean men as in males? Or just midlanders?

There's nothing wrong with this, I'm not understanding the issue.

“I’m doing this for 2 days please no more failures” They have every right to look for people that won't keep dying to the same thing 67 times. Not everyone could make it into savage statics, but that doesnt make them bad or even average players. Some of them are still very very good. and they'd like to match up with others who are very good yet displaced too so that they together can get that all bosses clear in the first week just like their peers. They should 100% be able to. They just need to meet the right people. and I'm sorry to say it, but most of you won't be the right people lol. Demanding parse logs in-game is bad because its against the rules, but whatever else they do is just fine-being choosy isnt a bannable offense. They try really hard to prepare and get everything right for this. They put time into meticulously learning fights and all they want is to easily be able to assemble teams who do the same.

They shouldnt have to babysit randoms who only half-watched a streamer once or even worse, didnt watch anything at all.
Plus, the MAJORITY of groups ARE for everyone else. As an average player, you should have no issues finding an average group. Average meaning, you go in blind, or a little experience, or you're feeling it out, or the dpsing doesnt matter to you..whatever it may be. What I'm trying to say here is that they have the right to find others who dont want to mess around and just want that clear asap. People who arent aiming for a clear within 4 attemps arent entitled to their time and efforts. Make your owns groups just like they're making their own. It'll fill just fine.

It’s sad that the same thing has arrived here now.
LITERALLY every single thing you typed will get you banned in FF14 if reported. So no the WoW crowd has not taken over. I wish the devs were more proactive in policing the PF but whatever.

As someone who came over from WoW only this past Summer after 16 years in it, I am surprised so many long time FFXIV players don't defend and protect their game more. The massive exodus this year is something I think of more as the Asmongold exodus than simply the WoW exodus. Most of his core audience is a certain type of player ( I came over about a month before he did) and that's the type of player that some seem to be causing issue.

It's like the MMORPG universe is a city. On one side you have an insane asylum, (WoW) and on the other side a nice well kempt country club (FFXIV). Then one day, all the inmates at the asylum come over to the country club. And the country club members defend the inmates? Madness.

But what can you really do about it? Some of us form WoW came to find a better place, not to be elitists and cause trouble. So even if you could keep out the Asmon bandwagoners it would take people like me out with them.

So on one hand, yes don't group all WoW refugees into the same box. But at the same time lets have some nuance here. Many of them have terrible attitudes at best, and at worse are used to a gaming community where people are regularly told to uninstall and play in traffic.

"Let's not group all WoW refugees in the same box, but refer to their MMO as an insane asylum"

Thanks for not contributing to the toxic "us vs them" mentality in the XIV community!

Seriously, the amount of hate/fear going on because somebody plays a different video game in this community is really unhealthy. You don't see this anywhere else.

You're not 100% wrong and the crowd of people who left WoW many years ago for XIV aren't 100% right. Yes, the prevalent attitude of the vocal WoW community is trashy, to say the least. The differences between the people who came here to follow a streamer/content creator because they've got no better option and those who made the move because they truly thought XIV was the better game for them are manifold. I welcome people from the latter group with open arms; I was once one of them and understand that people need a change of game at times. I don't welcome the former group though since they've got little to no investment in XIV.

On the flip side, I believe saying "I'm a WoW refugee too, I left 6 years ago" in the context of discussion of the problems **recent** WoW refugees have caused is both accurate and inaccurate. Yes, the vast majority of non-East Asian players likely played WoW as their main or only MMO, myself included. However, I left WoW 10 years ago, started playing XIV solely on its own merits, and not as a replacement for something I was fleeing from. As such, I became heavily invested in the game and community to an extent I wouldn't have had I made the switch on a whim or with a large crowd of people, such as a guild changing games all at once, or part of a mass flock exodus due to popular figures playing the game. I've never considered myself a WoW Refugee because I didn't come here seeking asylum when abandoning a hostile game and community. I do, however, consider myself an XIV Player given my investment in the game.

To my mind, these are the cruxes of the issue: those people who left WoW and came to XIV out of a sincere desire to play this game because of what it is are more invested in the game, the community, and their individual good behavior while playing. Those players who only left WoW recently often seem to carry the culture of that game with them and their lack of investment in XIV as a game and community sees them continuing that behavior here. We can't lump all "WoW Refugees" together in the same group, but we can certainly tell the difference between segments of that population. The negative connotations of that epithet are, unfortunately, reinforced enough that they ring true for a substantial segment of the players who recently left WoW.

That being said, we can't throw the wheat out with the chaff, as much as some would like to, so the best we can do is accept that they're here and be mindful of who we choose to associate with when playing. Any attempt at "defense" of the game/community sparks the worst flame wars I've ever seen here on the forums and is best avoided. Keep your head down, shield up, and continue moving forward.
