Last I checked, DRK is a tank role, not DPS. So who the hell cares about being the highest DPS tank (by a small margin mind you) if we can't even do what tanks are MEANT to do effectively?

Lol one of the healers from TPS later tweeted their dislike for Dark Knight.

Ah yes, fat damage and big numbers, the reason i chose to play tank.

1. For a Blue DPS Job, we sure don't have anything that makes a DPS playable. Frankly, the main thing that DPS jobs have is fun and being satisfying to play, which we have neither of in DRK.
2. We don't want to be a blue DPS, we want to Tank.
3. Just because something was seen at the high end of play does not mean it is perfect, nor does it necessarily mean it is fulfilling it's intended role.

And this is what I mean by people being hyperbolic. You can tank just fine on DRK. It's almost like you're saying it's unplayable.

From what I've seen the complaints about DRK stem entirely from progression content and not 8 main boss fights.
I would actually say DRK for the most part feels fine in those, its wall to wall dungeon clearing where things feel dicey.

He's not. It's just a known fact that all the tanks can do what DRK does, but better. GNB is only a little below DRK but has a lot of defensive options at its disposal.
DRK is viable, DRK performs fine in raids, but its design is still a jumbled mess. Everyone using DPS/TBN as an excuse for them being lazy with EW/ShB DRK isn't better than everyone being hyperbolic on here.
Don't get me wrong, I do think DRK should be on the higher end of DPS, but least give it some form of a mitigation upgrade that's as satisfying as the other lvl 82 CDs. TBN is and will continue to hold the job back.

I won't lie, I find TBN more satisfying to use, at least when you use it right. I know it isn't a DPS gain and all that jazz barring maybe taking an Edge into buffs, and I know it's not technically better than the others, but it's one of the few "counterattack" type deals we have left remaining from the old days. Given the team's track record for job changes, I doubt they'd implement something else like that if they make changes to TBN. At the same time, I'm not really sure whether TBN really holds the job back or not—I'm only good for commenting on the fun of the job, not the balance of it.

I think the main issue is the lack of agency DRK has compared to the other 3 tanks, its survival is almost entirely dependent on the healer's ability to keep the regens/shields/heals constantly flowing, meanwhile you have Gunbreaker who has the least amount of personal healing but Heart of Corundum is still really good and it can throw on superbolide if things get dicey, PLD who can literally flex into single target heals if they really really need to, and Warrior who can basically double pull the entire dungeon without a healer if they're good enough at spacing out their cooldowns.
DRK is the only job that didn't really improve (At least not much) in this expansion, there weren't any quality of life changes, the new skills are a joke, and the changes they did make simply aren't enough to put them on par with the other tank options
