(Spoilers?) How were some of these crafting recipes devised?

I did get a laugh out of the fact that a Studium recipe stated directly to be made only through materials available in Labyrinthos required going to the First. Some leves also want 'Garlean magitek weaponry' that's made using materials from the moon, too.

I feel like we just have to concede that the place we're getting Lime Basil isn't necessarily the only place Lime Basil can be found. I think the WoL is the kind of person that prioritizes 'I know a place' over any convenience of that place.

I'm pretty sure though our inventory is a bag of holding invented by the hotgo tribe from alexander and is enchanted with time magic. Otherwise why is our food ALWAYS fresh even though that stack of spaghetti carbonara has sat in my bag since heavesward as a memento

All discussion of needing to keep past content's materials relevant aside, if you had exclusive access to exotic ingredients/materials, wouldn't you capitalize on it? I know I would.

I haven't gotten to the Studium quests yet, but the hunt mark unlocks try to justify it by having various researchers making phenomenally implausible requests for specimens.

That's pretty much a summary of a couple Studium quests too. At least the others are graceful enough to say "Make 6 of XYZ" and not bring up where the materials come from. I suppose the requests for Moon Unit Zappa aren't outside the realm of possibility after the MSQ's finished. Doing them before that or requesting things requiring various Timey Wimey shenanigans is a bit weird.

That is in fact commented on in the studium quest for btn and miners when you go get elpis items.
