Unfortunately I think the robe and coat problem is clipping. If the clothing article doesn't replace the arm texture they have to make it big too prevent clipping. It's the same reason all floor length robes and coats are shaped like tents, minimize clipping.

Theres quite a few glove pieces that entirely cut off the sleeves of the majority of chestpieces.

Qitana Ravel gloves for healers turns just about anything sleeveless.
One of the PvP caster glams is quite similar to the Qitana healer one.
Also, you can use Fingerless Leather Gloves for any DoW to cut the puffy parts off most chest pieces.

There are a bunch of chests with sleeves that will override your glove slot, But thankfully they don't turn up often.

Nothing solves the lower part though lol. I just avoid them for the most part >_<

All clothes replace the character's arms, and the gloves can be programmed to not display above the wrists - I think it's a setting controlled by the chest piece whether they appear or not. Wide sleeves are a style choice.

The flared hems, on the other hand, seem designed to sit as if layered over a skirt whether you're wearing one or not, so if you do equip a skirt to the leg slot they won't clip into each other.

I don't mean to be rude, but look at me with a straight face and tell me that this looks like this to prevent clipping.

    This is fending armor.

I look like I'm about to transform into Popeicon and go fight with the Transformers.

    No, it's glorious fending armour.

Looks much better on women (as it doesn't have the inexplicable bust of Halone fused to the front like some kind of terrible visual pun), and specifically great on female Roegadyn who can be hard to find gear for.

Obviously that gear design isn't just to prevent clipping, but it does certainly avoid it.

On finding coats in general, I don't have a male Roegadyn character among my alt collection (yet) but I did briefly start one a few weeks ago to have a look at gear on the marketboard. I think some of the coats actually fit them very well - sometimes better than the smaller characters. But it's a matter of taste, of course.
