I can understand that. And yes, I get a bit heated as I have family that died in WW2 fighting against the type of people the Garleans are in game. So it hits me hard when someone starts saying "Oh, but you can understand where they're coming from!"

Because people want to ignore historical context, we used to learn WHY horrific empires came about so that we understand why, so it never happens again. The Garleans were technologically advanced but lacked empathy. If the city states don't learn from their own history, they risk becoming the very thing they are fighting against.

Feeling bad for the Garlean Empire is not the same as wanting them to take over Eorzea. Which is what you first stated when you came into the thread. Like yeah I feel bad for them too because in a way they are victims too but that does not make their actions towards Eorzea or any other province that they took over ok. Note, I am NOT defending the various bad actions of the Eorzeans but two wrongs don't make a right. Also, I personally never called you a fascist, I find talk like that to be unhelpful and not conductive to conversation.

It was a joke, I was making a joke about the obvious technology gap and the fantasy "trope" of magic equalising societies with completely different technological levels. I mean, you have lasers guns and canons versus wooden bows and old sailing ships. Its a bit ridiculous when you think about it.

But yes, namecalling using the usual dumb buzzwords like fascist or Nazi is utterly stupid. Reminds me of those cretins that call RP players who have imperial-aligned Garlean characters as Nazi apologists, and not because they enjoy the ideas, themes and potential developments of playing a character in the evil empire faction.

Yeah, its like those cosplayers that dress up like Stormtroopers or Imperial Soldiers... I have a friend who is a Stormtrooper cosplayer and he's recently been getting abuse for it when he's out with his garrison. He just loves Star Wars and I've seen him cry after when people call him a "Nazi supporter". Its so wrong.
