Depends on your perspective, is Meteion winning really such a bad thing? Is there any point to saving a planet that has seen countless slaughters and evils from different species living there and will continue to do that even after this threat has been dealt with? Is it really worth it?

The whole point of the game is that finding hope in the darkness IS worth fighting for. Those moments of happiness make it all worthwhile.

That's not what I took away from the game, I took away that Hermes never got an answer to his question and created a love doll that went insane and tried to kill everyone.

I didn't think she would turn out to be evil in the traditional sense. More like an overprotective parent who made what I consider to be a horrible decision and we're the consequences of that decision. When we finally met face to face, my character definitely wanted to give her a piece of my mind. Recalling what Emet said to Meteion after the dungeon "Who are YOU to decide our fate?" Similarly, who is Venat/Hydaelyn to take away the agency and choice of the ancients?

Either way, everything already happened and now here we are, the products of that choice. Instead of laying everything out in black and white it's been nothing but vague platitudes about not letting the dark win and calling us her children etc. If you want our help to fight for something, at least explain your side of things and why you need us. Don't be vague; we're adults we can handle the truth.

Now that both Hydaelyn and Zodiark are gone maybe we can now actually make our own destiny without anyone trying to sway us to their side of a conflict we never asked to be in when we started this game as adventurers. I know that in my case, my character just wants to do his own thing now and not be tied down. I honestly just want to meet new people without my character automatically going into defense mode just because their a Garlean or leftover Ascian or whatever they are. I want to build relationships based off of my interactions with that individual and not any stereotypes. Let's hope that moving forward we can just have fun and not deal with any complicated plot lines. I never thought I'd say this but I'm starting to appreciate Zenos' character more and more. No complicated motivations, just wants to fight and feel alive. I can get behind that lol.

To me at least they pretty clearly laid out Hydealyn as, well, not exactly being good. I get that she was definitely portrayed more "good" than some people liked but it never really felt to me like the game handwaved what she did (and the exact why is always going to be up for debate, just as it was on the other side).

To be honest, though, I actually don't see what they did as being safe. In fact, given all of the hints we had going in to EW, I actually feel making Hydealyn straight up "the bad guy" would have been the safer and more predictable route. So many people were predicting that "twist" that it really wouldn't have been much of a twist at all.

Yes because she doesn't have the right to tell us if we should live or die. Why should some random person die because some jerk somewhere else did something evil?

Yes, that is actually the moral question at a point. Well, not the way you put it, but rather 'is it right to sunder the planet to fight Meteion rather than let that planet's inhabitants drive themselves to death'. Remember that the Sundering was equal parts about making sure the planet could fight Meteion as it was ensuring that the Ancients would stop the cycle of sacrifices that had now gone from 'sacrificing the Ancients willingly' to 'sacrificing the life of the planet unwillingly'.

Essentially, is it better to live by someone else's standards, or to die by your own? Amaurot was going down the road to a tragic end regardless of Meteion.

Yeah but Meteion said it herself, all the civilisations she found destroyed themselves. "Hope" is a little cheesy in the face of natural evolution and the Fermi Paradox, don't you think?

did you miss the part where they stated that meteion herself doomed several civilizations by projecting her doomer mentality onto their people? annihilation was hardly the inevitable path for every single world she saw, and even for all ther travels, she probably still didn't see literally everything there was to the universe
