You can always have the best of both worlds and make a dungeon that would come with the raid, having the theme and adding story. You would have a new dungeon for each of the raid release. That would benefit both the raiders and the non-raiders.

So for the people that want to skip the trash they can, for the people that want a more immersive experience then they can run the dungeon before the raid.

Tbf, you don't necessarily even have to split it into two different things. One can as easily checkpoint the larger piece of content for DF usage.

In that concept, the raid would be available also as a full raid (alike to our Alliance Raids), but you could queue for the whole thing (with its added tomes, gil, etc., and rare materials dropped from trash) OR for any select boss from it (your separate "R1", "R2", "R3", etc.) in which case you zone in to the checkpoint just outside the boss area, the trash up to that point already cleared. (Hell, I'd say even Alliance Raids probably ought to respawn immediately outside the boss arena. It's not as if we've forgotten from 3 minutes prior what the way to the boss looked like.)

Those who want their larger, more immersive piece of contiguous and cohesive content can have it. Those who want to speedily farm a particular boss (though, admittedly, I'd prefer the slot-specific coffers drops be replaced simply with totems, with just rare, also-at-NPC-craftable or relic materials giving us reasons for reruns, if we happen to really enjoy a particular fight), can do so.

My initial response is entirely in good faith. I was asking for clarification. Had I not noticed it was that particular poster I would have continued in good faith to figure out exactly what was lacking. However this PARTICULAR poster isn't interested in bettering the game, just instigating. If someone else wants to continue the actual discussion of what is lacking, by all means. I will not stand in their way.

I don't see myself telling anyone who has a valid criticism to "go back to WoW", just asking questions as to what exactly is the current content lacking along with suggestions and pointing to content that has what they're asking for.

Discussions can be had in troll threads, but maybe should be continued in their own threads in the interest of separating them from trash.

Hopefully this discussion will arise again at some point without being soured by a troll poster.

tbh, I kind of agree. I like savage fights for what they are, but I really wish there was a savage equivalent for alliance raids. Delubrum savage (and I assume baldesion arsenal, but I have never been to euraka lol?) was kind of close, but the fact that it was gated behind bozja kind of killed it for me, because by the time I unlocked it I dearly wished to never step foot in bozja again.

Like, every time I go through the stormblood alliance raids (specifically orbonne because I love orbonne), I'm always really impressed by how cool the area is and how well the atmosphere is laid out as you traverse the zone. Compared to like, the vast majority of the eden raids, where it feels like you kind of just get plopped onto [generic floating arena] that has [somewhat interesting backdrop] and just instantly begin the fight. Like the music is sick and in most cases I really enjoy the aesthetic, but it just does not feel half as interesting or immersive as most of the alliance raids.

Obviously a big part of this is the fact that the one-room one-boss savage fight setup is very set in stone, and also with only 8 players in the party the devs are pretty limited in what they can do without just making the fight annoying, but still. The grating part of alliance raids for me is always the fact that, despite the cool zones and great music and (generally) lore (sorry nier raids but i hated you), they're always so easy that you don't really end up paying attention after like the first run because you can just phone in 99% of the mechanics. I just think it would be super sick to have a savage level of difficulty 24 man content; like it would feel so much more epic than the 8man savage fights in my opinion.

although I'm very aware that this will never happen lol. I'm pretty sure they said that alliance raids are forever meant to be casual content :/ I guess ultimate kind of scratches the itch, what with having multiple bosses in one instance and changing music/arenas, but the 8man party still makes me said. I prefer like 99% of ffxiv over wow, but wow raids always did feel a lot more impressive in regards to scale compared to ffxiv savage fights.

Calling 8 mans "raids", is even a stretch. You queue and get plopped onto a square or circle.

I liked the feel of Bahamut coils and Alexander more than the "raids" that came from Stormblood onwards which were at that point simply a second set of trials with savage being its version of EX.

I would like to see a return to the days of Coil. These days, 8-man raids are no different than trials.. and it's not supposed to be that way.

I believe a huge opportunity was missed this expansion, given the environment the raids are set in.. it would have been perfect to actually explore with a group before you reach the boss.

Even Alexander was too linear. Trash mobs were of no real consequence. I think Coil had the perfect formula. They should return to that.

Sadly they wont return to it, no matter how much we want it. It would go against the direction of the game, aka : Make everything braindead and dumbed down so that the game is accessible to everyone.
Then they will put in 12 harder fights and 1 really hard one for the 10% but the ones who dont have the time to dedicate themselves to a static, will be forever doomed to play with their brain off.

Losing even a single savage floor to the snoozefest that is T3 or the travesty like Steps of Faith would be very upsetting. We don't get that many savage fights. At least let them stay worhtwhile.
