Maybe it is a short song, but I swear Close in the Distance doesn't sound like the entire song.

Just like I said in the other thread, there's zero reason to change it given all the MSQ implications the song brought.
We have the Tower of Zot from FF4; can we also get Within the Giant and Tower of Babil?
I'm going to assume most of the "don't change it" people, don't actually spend much time there or are just being contrary to be contrary. I love the song, but within a few minutes get sick of it when doing fates or side quests.
(this is the part where they all claim to hang there 24/7)
I have been on and off looping the song for several hours a day every day since I first heard it in msq. When I'm not looping that I'm looping my other favourite tracks from EW. I frequently do this with music I enjoy. Even as a kid I would rewind cassettes over and over to hear the same song again. However I am aware that there are those who would never do that no matter how much they enjoy a piece of music. And there are those somewhere in the middle. We're all different.I'm going to assume most of the "don't change it" people, don't actually spend much time there or are just being contrary to be contrary. Currently there is a toggle for residential areas to play the housing music or the city music for the corresponding city instead. SE could introduce a similar toggle for Ultima Thule so you can choose which version of the track you would like to hear. That way everyone can get what they want without depriving someone else of what they want. Problem solved.
I do love the song but I wish it wasn't on a continuous loop. I might have to turn mount music back on when I'm gathering in the zone just so I have a little variety.

I liked the muffled ambient theme it started with better.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Totally agreed. Oh and change the Pelaton sound effect.
It depends whether they wrote a "full" song and then developed the looped BGM from it, or whether it was written specifically to be used in this looping format without a clear climax and ending.
I miss the instrumental versions of Close in the Distance myself as well although I don't mind the Lyric Version playing in the background as it is a nice song by itself.
If SE would combine the Lyric Version with both instrumental parts the length of the song would be around 9:40 minutes. Over the course of a full day in Eorzea it would loop 7,5 times.
If SE can't let players switch between the various songs then this would make a good compromise in my opinion.
