    Every DRK knows that Salt the Earth remaining Expac over expac is SE trolling. It has always been super usless. Low an behold we get the lowest amount of DRK changes out of 3 expacs and what do they build off? Salt the earth.

    Blood weapon doesn't heal the DRK, Soul eater DOES heal the DRK, No thematic drains on stats, and only one drain period, no debuffs, Why our Aoe combo is some half ass magic looking trash I will never know. The class is a mess.

    Brimstone never existed.

    It's clearly just an internal ability that never saw the light of day (likely just a prototype for Salted Earth, given the next point) - its animation is just the beginning of the old Salted Earth. It's really weird why they stuck it in the video, since it was never in the live client period and thus, never 'removed'. Not even Garlandtools or Gamerescape have even the slightest mention of it either.

    Huh? What do you mean "always"? Salted Earth was DRK's strongest non-GCD attack for two expansions in a row.

    It was literally only weak in Shadowbringers, and to get it to be that weak, they had to double the cooldown, reduce the potency per tick by a third, reduce the number of damage ticks by a quarter, and then eliminate its Blood generation, ultimately cutting it down to less than one-fourth the damage that it did in Heavensward and Stormblood.

    It's not a skill that anyone should have wanted removed; it's a skill that people should have wanted to have restored to some of its former glory. It just would have been more fun for players, and less work for SE, to revert the nerfs to its cooldown and duration (and not nerf the ability to place it at range) than to introduce Salt and Darkness just to accomplish the same thing.

    It's honestly baffling that they kept salted earth in at this point, considering how hard they massacred it. Then again they massacred the rest of the job as well, so par for the course i guess.

    Most players struggle with DoTs and placeable AoEs. Salted Earth is both.

    I personally like it, as it's one of the few unique DRK job features that the dev team haven't felt obliged to copy over to other tanks.

    It's listed as an 'official' ability according to the game files, but it was never made playable. There's some slight differences to the old Salted Earth, including a different hitbox effect and all of that. It's also apparently the only way to play the old Salted Earth animation as the previous one has been pretty much made inaccessible now from the game. I figure it's still something interesting, though.

    I just wish it was... more, rather than merely "Free AoE DoT damage per 90s, with the constraint that mobs must remain with it."

    That's not to say that the constraint is bad or that the skill as a whole lacks any creativity; it just feels like it could be far more interesting.

    Granted, most further mechanical opportunities it'd have would require complex enough fights for those to feel uniquely advantageous.

    I wouldn't mind if they rolled it back to how it was in stormblood. I liked how it tied into blackblood.

    Frankly i wish more of dark knights CDs tied into it's actual resources and didn't simply...exist.

    I think the reason they removed the animations was because most of them were tied to skills losing their relevance.

    Enmity combo was removed after 5.0, SE wanted to keep the basic combo down to 1-2-3. Souleater combo being left is because the job relies on MP-HP restoration. Unlike Warrior, they didn't keep a 4th combo.

    Scourge was a DoT with a potency of 40 and 18 seconds you had to apply for any fight longer than 30 seconds (upgraded later). Got removed for whatever reason even though people liked it.

    To me, this all just goes to show you after Heavensward they just didn't care about the job any more. Imagine if Reaper had no screenshake and slow animations; most people would be put off.
