Um, so you're saying that having that 'other' tank as an option was a bad thing? You do realize how hard it was to find a single Paladin when you needed one? Perhaps it wasn't Utsusemi alone that negated the usefulness of other subs - rather, the uselessness of said subs.

That other tank wasn't an option for 90% of content. Why couldn't the two types of tanks be equal, or at least as close to equal as possible, in all content?

Do you know why? It was because nobody wanted to level a Paladin, because nobody in exp parties cared to have a Paladin tank. Everyone wanted a Ninja, and it was directly reflected in the end-game population of tanks.

No, /NIN negated the other subs because Utsusemi was so far above the other abilities that other subs provided, that you would be f**king stupid not to take it. It gave you no-brainer, easy-mode defenses for tanks and exponentially higher damage for DPS classes. There was no other sub that you could use, because they were all s**t by comparison.

Idk how long you played XI but pld was pretty much the go to tank for everything. Except maybe exp pt's that's all.

PLD was the go-to tank for linkshells that didn't have a NIN tank that was well geared, and for the very few NMs that hit like a Mack truck and required a tank with high HP and defense.

And even for those, PLD/NIN was an exceedingly common tank. FFXI's NIN job saw more love and overpowered skills than any class in any MMO I've played.

I played main tank for 6 years endgame and only seen nin tanks around early 2005 XI after that it was all pld/nin.

Somehow I seriously doubt this, because for everything except Cerberus/Tiamat/Vrtra/PW/[insert 5 hour long HNM here], people grabbed NINs to tank.

Eh i think it came down to your LS preferences, some LS have better NINs some have better PLDs, my LS usually does things with PLD/NIN because we only have 1-2 reliable tank NINs at disposal due to our LS size.

Your talking to a pld main in XI who had an Aegis who did end game for 6 years and competed vs other ls. NEVER seen a nin tank for any of those mobs cause a nin would die if they ever got hit by one of those mobs with no shadows up. Also no one is using thf on these bosses and NIN dmg was ass on these said bosses. You never fought any of these mobs.

Or don't add Utsusemi at all and just give bard an AoE Blink. I loved Ninja and all but I can see why it shouldn't be added in the same way that it was in XI. Maybe make it an EVA buff or reduced dmg buff for a certain number of hits, but make it class restricted on an actually DD... (Thinks of Ninja)
