Oh, snap! I didn't know they made 86 models. That's a good, if emotionally wrenching, anime; definitely recommend it.

but I never felt like the world was at stake in a story about the world being at stake.

I remarked on this to an FC mate early on. SE spoiled their own show by hyping Ishgard housing so much and so early. If they had said something along the lines of "A new housing zone will be coming with 6.1. It's already fully developed and waiting for the proper time to release." would have left things a lot more open to (mis)interpretation. The new zone could easily have been on the moon or a potential new world after the current was destroyed. Nope, unfortunately we got "Wow, we spent a boatload of effort making this new housing zone in Ishgard. By the way, that means you're going to save the world and live happily ever after, sorry for spoiling the story!".
