I also thought the choice was a little weird. WHM is also strange with getting GLD and PUG skills. That really makes me wonder.

It is. You just need to unequip the soul crystal and you're in the base class again. Only works when not engaged with an enemy, of course.
From the looks of it once you enter a fight, you can not change.
I know this is just looking into the future and assuming it will happen... but I don't want us to change between classes and jobs every other mob. It reminds me of that macro cloth changing from XI. Even though I never played it, it looked stupid, annoying, and redundant...a nd made completely no sense. Just opinion and speculation lol
Krausus was asking why I'd prefer Cure to Second Wind, and that's the reason I gave. I don't plan healing as BLM, but I do plan on surviving my role as a glass canon. Why would you want/need to heal someone else? That is the WHITE MAGES role. YOURS is to burst DD, not heal everyone else. If you get hurt pretty badly, you can suffice that with second wind and any more that needs to be healed comes from White Mage. Black Mages shouldn't be healing anyways. People are already getting classes and jobs mixed up...
I do like the fact that both White Mage and Black Mage have nothing to do with each other now, as opposed to CON and THM. Unique mage classes have been needed in the game for a while now.
But you have two healing abilities in this game as a Thaumaturge or a Black Mage: Necrogenis and Second Wind. And if you plan on surviving, good enmity control and watching your positioning will help that. If you do that right, you shouldn't take much damage and not need to heal yourself lolKrausus was asking why I'd prefer Cure to Second Wind, and that's the reason I gave. Quelling strike will typically take primal enmity from red to yellow. It's a great cross class skill.
Quelling Strike buff enmity down works as if you did -150 damage when the hit connects. So if you did 250 damage, the mob will only act like you did 100 hate-wise. It does not allow you to go 'negative' and will not shed hate for you like chameleon. Also, the enmity associated with actually buffing it is 19, so your net "gain" in enmity loss is only really -131 "damage" worth of enmity.
BLM basically gets 7 choices - blindside, second wind, featherfoot, hawk's eye, decoy, chameleon, quelling strike. Blindside does not work on spells or auto-attack (WS only). BLM/THM has no WS that fit the criteria so it is truly a "useless buff" as nothing procs the status. Hawk's Eye does not work for magic either. So that removes 2 choices. This leaves only 5 relevant choices to even pick from, meaning all the BLMs will have the same ability list next patch unless they simply haven't leveled high enough to get some of the abilities.
Decoy, Quelling Strike, Chameleon, Featherfoot, Second Wind
