The Demon of the Tome? From the level 60 Summoner quest "A Book With Bite?"
Just fight it like you would any other mob.

Pet doesn't hold aggro, so that won't work. Kiting doesn't work. He still keeps either hitting me or is too far to hit.
Pet doesn't attack anymore, so you can't just wait him out.
Mob can hit you from very far away, even far outside his smoke animation. So even if you think you're far enough away, you're not. He'll even hit you through the crystal.
Had to stop because I was getting motion sick running around trying to kite him.
/10characters because of quoting what I already said.
Yet, the suggestion given is the correct answer.... Just fight it like any other mob.
You are a caster DPS, you are squishy, and your primary form of combat is to kill things faster than they can kill you......
Now, think......
What summon can you use to not be as squishy for some time? What skills and spells do you have to do damage faster than normal while increasing your overall DPS?
Answer those questions and you will have beaten the mob.
And as for kiting, as your primary DPS spells have a cast timer, kiting means your DPS is greatly reduced.
Kiting only works for jobs that do not have a cast/attack timer, but your movement speed while in combat is generally always equal to or less than the movement speed of a non-encumbered mob.
At L63 (although right now your Summoner job shows to be L66) you are in Stormblood expansion and you should be just on the cusp of being over level for any Heavensward gear.
That said, you can do most all the content up to L68-ish OK while in HW expansion Shire gear, but if you have any gear still in use that is less than IL270, you should defiantly upgrade it.
It isn't. This quest was originally designed for when you have a tanking pet as well as a pet that shoots. Neither of those are true anymore, but they didn't adjust the quest. It's still designed around circumstances that don't exist anymore.
Except there's video evidence of this being completed in ShB, where Titan-Egi did not generate its own aggro and all aggro generated by Titan-Egi would just go to you, the player. Effectively meaning that you would tank mobs... just like any other caster job. The circumstances didn't exist in ShB, and people still managed to do this.
Practice your rotation.
No one can teach you how to fight overworld mobs on your job. It's a mob. Dodge its bright-orange/yellow AOE marker, use the summons you already have with the skills given to you. If you're dying then you're either severely undergeared or don't know how to play your job. Either gear up or go to a fighting dummy and relearn your rotation. If that's too much effort for you then just bring a lvl 80/90 person to bash it for you. (Though what satisfaction you'd get out of that, I've no idea.)
Considering in ShB this mob could be beaten in 4-5 attacks , you could feasibly summon Garuda and Titan and get it done in 20-30 seconds.
