I am having this exact issue and it is absolutely infuritating. Unfortunately the connection that I play on can be unstable even at the best of times. Typically if I do end up lagging or disconnecting, it is only for a brief moment and after the hiccup I'm able to continue to play any online game. For whatever reason, in FF14 they have a grace period for the queue (which I appreciate tremendously - thank you!), but there is no grace period once you are in the game.

Why have one, but not the other? If someone can DC for a moment from the queue, and SE recognizes that they should not lose their place immediately for that, why is that same concept not applied to the game itself once connected?

Please, please, PLEASE @SE, add a grace period to reconnect to the game. Even just a minute or two would be wonderful, like you have implemented to the queue. It is so horrific with these queues that I (and I'm sure many people in a similar situation to me), am ready to unsub entirely because I'm just forced to wait in queues over and over because my ISP is unreliable. To be clear, I don't mind waiting in the queue for a bit like everyone else! I just don't want to do it several times a day. -_-

the queue and the game environment is not the same. while not familiar with the login server code, its a gatekeeper, you wait in the queue until there is world space. when there is world space, it hands you over and you are in. as far as I am aware, there is no need, nor good reason, to have the world server communicating information back to the login server.

and now, you want add in two way communication between the two. and we arent talking about a minute or two. unless you are cleanly logging out, the game can take a while to log you out. I have waited 5-10 minutes to be fully logged out before I can log back in. so, the world server would have to monitor the logout of EVERYONE in the game, and then communicate that to the log in server "just in case"

I am thinking might be a bit of a performance hit... at best...

so I will vote for pass on this one.

Unfortunately that is not how it works with the queue. If you are 2002'd out of the queue due to your connection you lose your spot. The queue only holds the spot if it is the Lobby Server itself kicking people out from being overloaded. So by the same token being dc'd from in game because of your connection works just the same way as 2002. Not to mention, as much as it sucks, it is likely best it is kept this way. As other's have stated it would probably be exploitable to hackers, as well as people who intentionally interrupt their connection to get out of a group.

Unfortunately, there are players that would exploit the ability to disconnect after getting in game and get queue privilege. People who cheat are frequently why we can't have nice things.

Hopefully the fixes SE will be implementing during patch maintenance next week will help with the queue problems so waits will be shorter when your local connection causes you to disconnect.

I don't see any exploit here. If someone reconnects within 5 minutes then they can get their slot back. It seems fair to me and people won't be able to exploit this. For people with bad internet connection, they should get their ISP to fix it. I understand if they're on a mobile hotspot and can't fix it but any physical connection should be addressed. It's not a FF solution but it's something important to do regardless.
