This is not going to be a quick fix. The additional data centers and servers will take several months to get set up and they have not even obtained them yet. If you're looking for an end to congestion during Endwalker you may not see it (although you will see less eventually, those that only play for MSQ leave and move on) but basically this is the dev's setting up for the next expansion in two years. Hopefully it will be enough!

Realistically if the 2002 bounces out of queues are actually fixed, I can deal with the queues. Without the fear of being bounced out of queue I can queue up and walk away from the machine and do other things until the queue pops.

As for when the new servers might come online I have no idea. I suspect they will trickle in and be brought online asap. Also the planned Oce data center should take some of the pressure off the other data centers. Maybe not a complete fix but at least it is some.

Personally I am astounded how transparent they are being and truly appreciate it.

As much as it's great they're addressing it. Suspending sells, advertisement, and new accounts is VERY bad for the holidays. When people would be buying the game for others.

It's December. They will obviously take a big loss. But they have a whole team that must have confirmed with them this was the least costly alternative to go with. Multi billion dollar corporations have multiple professionals that analyze this kind of data. Instead of worrying about woe is this poor AAA game company losing some profit you should be just glad they're prioritizing keeping their current active customers as satisfied as possible.

Besides what else are people who were looking for a MMORPG going to play? Final Fantasy XI?

From what I've seen here there's been a mix.

a) Threads of people crying, throwing their toys out of the pram, demanding things, finding the whole thing unacceptable of the devs, in some cases insulting them, calling them liars, saying they should have got more servers, not accepting the reality of the situation and flooding the forum with lots of different threads airing their dissatisfaction. It's in these threads I also see people defending the devs and getting called "White Knights" for it, as one of those people defending them in said threads. It's not a blind defense and I know I myself have backed up my statements defending them that can easily be verified.
b) Threads of people providing legitimate and constructive criticism in a non-inflammatory manner. These I've seen have generally been better received. I know my own reaction to them has been "fair enough" or if I've disagreed I've tried to return the same respect.

Point 'A', honestly, I don't think is acceptable, especially from a grown adult. And I am inclined to say "hey, cut the devs some slack" (and it's the devs we're dealing with, not Square Enix as a whole)
Point 'B', I say is what we should expect of people. Not everybody will agree with all criticism, but if it's constructive then at least good discourse can come out of it. And this is what we tend to see come out of these forums on most issues even when it gets heated.

That's the thing though. The semi-conductor shortage has been an issue since 2019, because it started with trade wars between Japan and Korea, and also the US and China and then has been worsened by COVID19. They also last added new servers in 2019. And the population issue I think has only been a problem since July this year (or thereabouts) where there was a huge spike that resulted in them being sold out of digital copies of the game. And that popularity spike pretty much closed off Aether, hell froze over and Balmung even became a preferred destination server. Balmung has always been the problem child of server congestion, hence the "hell froze over" comment, because I never thought I'd see the day.

But I struggle to see what is unacceptable.
That they didn't prepare for 2 things that they didn't know was going to happen and prepare 2 years in advance? And where if one didn't happen the other wouldn't be too much of an issue?

well than it certainly aren't the white knights saying "stop posting, square isn't reading it anyways" because that is not defending the company but actively accusing them of not giving a flying frick about the playerbase.

like i said, i sadly cannot do so, i wish i could but obviously threads where the op begins the thread with things like "fuck you and suck on a bag of dicks" are against the forum rules and so actually do get removed. i'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you somehow truly have missed the worst stuff that flew around, sadly all i can say is to assure you that i am interested in constructive criticism, doesn't even matter if i agree with it because i think it's important to voice dissatisfaction, but a lot of people really were mostly throwing a tantrum, especially during the first few days and there was indeed more than one "fuck you" "go die" or "shove your apologies up your fucking ass" thrown around which is not how adults in civilized society should behave and which is also what lead to most backlash from "white knights".

here's the thing, if you or anyone else says "listen, i don't feel this situation is acceptable so i unsubscribed" than more power to you. it's a valid reaction to have if you feel the situation is unacceptable, and while i and many others feel differently you are absolutely correct that you don't "need" to cut the developers any slack, so saying as much is perfectly fine and indeed a valid form of criticism, that is a good thing, even if i don't agree with it on a personal level. many people however have started threads over threads over even more threads , more or less demanding that everyone follow their example of telling square to fuck off, which really had less to do with offering honest criticism and was closer to screaming as loud as possible so no one elses opinion would be heard or accepted, that however is NOT a valid form of offering criticism but abusing the forum system to the detriment of other users.

I’m not sure why people are saying that. When I emailed SE because I wanted to formally complain, they redirected me to the forums because they do review it. Just because they don’t reply to people on the forums doesn’t mean it’s not being monitored/passed on to the team.

I dont see how people defending SE over misinformation is white knighting, nobody predicted last year that WoW would fail and on top of that all the fluffs that came to light from people working there and allegations which pushed even more ppl away from the game and the company[Also New World lol]. Also even if they were to begin buying servers and such as early as the sudden player increase happened, we probably still would not have servers due to the shortages they started talking about since September if not earlier.
So uh.. being informed and civil isn't white knighting, of course some ppl go too far in both sides, the Whine knights and the White knights.

Agreed, i dont really mind the queue besides being forced to babysit it.
If i can start up my game, then do things around the house or walk my dog knowing when im back i could be logged in or still in queue but not disconnected, it will be G-R-E-A-T

Counter-arguement: Suspending new sales basically until "congestion eases," knowing the only real solution is new hardware, is probably not something they'd be doing if they expected that new hardware to be years out.

I'll choose to be optimistic (for now) and believe they'll have something lined up hopefully by summer some time.
