how do YOU define a white knight ? no offense meant here but a white knight, using the common way people use it and given the situation we are in would most definitely be someone defending square enix, and i have a really, REALLY hard time seeing someone telling others "square doesn't read the english forums anyway, don't even bother" as defending them.

and about the fuck you, go die in a fire etc. comments, if you really want to say you didn't see this stuff than you have to be selectively blind. there have been dozens of threads the last few days containing such gems as "thank you for making wow look good, now go fuck yourself and refund" and no, i can't just pull up something right now because "sadly" these are the threads that actually manage to get removed. But really, the forum has been full of them, if you managed to find enough people telling others not to post that you felt the need to call this behaviour out you can't seriously claim you didn't see the dozens of threads full of profanity that some people have posted.

As I've heard it, yeah. They ordered (or at least began planning) OCE early last year. They just didn't announce it until further along when they were more confident in their release time frame. Which... yeah.

For those who are wondering, they cant cancel some ads since they already paid for them, along with a signed contract. Purchased airtime, ad buys and specific advertisement slots gets....complicated.

I'm just talking about the additional servers for the NA and EU datacenters since July was when we got the massive influx of WoW refugees, and when Asmongold began streaming FFXIV. If we start it from then, it would already be around 6 months already, and if it takes a few more months from now, then they can easily hit the 1 year mark. The Oceanic Datacenter definitely took them over a year.

Not perfect but at the corent situation as best as we can have. They won't let new players join for now. Hope they start doing server resets more often,even each day, as this looks to help. Not onlly it kicks afkers but clean the logs of the log in servers. To bad they don't delay the savage but it be ok I hope.
Best thing is how yoshi (more like the team for looking at the forums and such) clearly know of all the topics going on now. So this is to all the white knights that say "stop posting here,no one see it".

I don't recall anybody saying "stop posting no one sees it" most of the people folks have been calling "white knights" have been saying to cut them some slack because they can't do anything about the servers and to stop throwing their toys out of the pram. You'll find threads where people have actually been constructive have been better received.

But my hope is that the situation doesn't hurt them and the decision they've made I don't think is a light one. I appreciate they actually investigated the 2002 error based on the feedback and data provided, which shows it isn't just the issues they stated and were able to narrow it down to a 1.0 server code bug.

With how great Shadowbringers was, how great Endwalker is and knowing how much work they actually put in and their efforts to be transparent with the community, I feel like they deserve the success they've been getting and it sucks they can't do the one thing they need to do to handle it and the steps they're making make sense because they don't want to exacerbate the issue and want to relief it instead and that boils down to reducing congestion. I think it sucks for them just as it sucks for us, because although Square Enix are a corporate entity, it's the FFXIV team we're dealing with and who see our feedback and I know it's a passion project for them. So I feel solidarity is better than this "us and them" mentality. Of course that doesn't mean hold them on a pedestal and protect them from criticism, but more be constructive about it and understand the situation.

It seems clear that they have more than enough money to pull some stops here to let the queues lessen and get a fix going.
It's a bold move plus with the 21 days of free play time he gave.

Still, incredibly grateful as I've never seen a dev explain things like this and keeping up to date before. Hoping for the best.

From what I've seen here there's been a mix.

a) Threads of people crying, throwing their toys out of the pram, demanding things, finding the whole thing unacceptable of the devs, in some cases insulting them, calling them liars, saying they should have got more servers, not accepting the reality of the situation and flooding the forum with lots of different threads airing their dissatisfaction. It's in these threads I also see people defending the devs and getting called "White Knights" for it, as one of those people defending them in said threads. It's not a blind defense and I know I myself have backed up my statements defending them that can easily be verified.
b) Threads of people providing legitimate and constructive criticism in a non-inflammatory manner. These I've seen have generally been better received. I know my own reaction to them has been "fair enough" or if I've disagreed I've tried to return the same respect.

Point 'A', honestly, I don't think is acceptable, especially from a grown adult. And I am inclined to say "hey, cut the devs some slack" (and it's the devs we're dealing with, not Square Enix as a whole)
Point 'B', I say is what we should expect of people. Not everybody will agree with all criticism, but if it's constructive then at least good discourse can come out of it. And this is what we tend to see come out of these forums on most issues even when it gets heated.
